Job summary

McCarthy Recruitment Ltd is recruiting a Shift Engineering Supervisor for a busy processing operation in Enfield, North London. The role is permanent with a 4 on, 4 off shift pattern and a salary up to £60,000.

You will lead a multi-skilled engineering team on shift, while remaining hands-on to diagnose faults, carry out repairs and drive maintenance improvements across plant safety and reliability.

Qualifications

• HNC in Mechanical or Plant Engineering.
• Previous experience leading or supervising an engineering/maintenance team.
• Strong mechanical fault finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Welding experience.
• Experience delivering planned and reactive maintenance.
• Able to stay hands-on while leading a team.
• Confident prioritising activities in a busy environment.
• Experience in heavy industrial settings (waste/recycling/manufacturing) is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Lead and supervise a team of engineers and contractors.
• Prioritise planned and reactive maintenance across the shift.
• Carry out fault finding, diagnostics and repairs.
• Support preventative maintenance and minimise downtime.
• Work with mechanical systems including hydraulics and pneumatics.
• Support Root Cause Analysis after breakdowns.
• Identify opportunities to improve plant reliability and performance.
• Allocate workloads and ensure priorities are delivered.
• Coach and develop engineers on shift.
• Maintain maintenance records in the CMMS.
• Ensure safe, high-standard engineering work.
• Deliver effective shift handovers and clear communication.
