Job summary

Mandarin Oriental Hotel Group is seeking a Shift Engineer for One Hyde Park in London. You will maintain mechanical and electrical systems, and oversee the building fabric across common and back-of-house areas.

Join a luxury team providing exceptional service. The role operates on a 4 on, 4 off 12-hour shift pattern, with day and night rotations and weekend/bank holiday coverage. A proactive, team-oriented mindset is essential to ensure resident comfort and safety.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in HVAC, electrical, plumbing and general maintenance.
  • Experience in a similar hospitality environment.
  • Knowledge of Fire, Life and Safety systems.
  • An apprenticeship or certificate in engineering.
  • Ability to identify and troubleshoot issues quickly with minimal disruption.
  • Inquisitive, eager to learn and stay calm under pressure.
  • Able to work as part of a team and independently when required.
  • Friendly, professional demeanour with residents and guests.

4 days on, 4 days off, 12 hours shifts

We’re looking for a Shift Engineer to join our Engineering team at One Hyde Park.

As a Shift Engineer at One Hyde Park, you will be responsible for:
  • Inspection, testing, maintenance and repair of the mechanical systems, electrical systems and building fabric of the common and back of house areas of the property.
  • To conduct and record inspections of the life‑safety systems.
  • To form part of the emergency response team.

As a Shift Engineer, you will be working on a 4 on, 4 off rotating shift basis of 12‑hour shifts. Shift patterns will vary from day and night shifts (including weekends and bank holidays), so flexibility is required where applicable.

To be a successful Shift Engineer candidate, you will have or be:
  • Proficiency in various technical areas such as HVAC systems, electrical systems, plumbing, and general maintenance is crucial,
  • Experience in a similar environment,
  • Working knowledge of Fire, Life, Health and Safety systems,
  • An apprenticeship or certificate in a relevant engineering field,
  • An ability to quickly identify and troubleshoot issues that arise, ensuring minimal disruption to residents’ comfort and safety,
  • Inquisitive and keen to learn, with a desire to see a task through to its completion and keep calm under pressure
  • Enjoy working as part of a team yet can work effectively unsupervised,
  • A friendly and professional demeanour when interacting with residents, providing excellent service while respecting their privacy and preferences.
