Job summary

Enva is seeking a hands-on SHEQ Manager to lead all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality activities at the Perth, Scotland site. Reporting to the Operations Director, you will uphold legal compliance, reduce risks, and foster a proactive safety culture through toolbox talks, training, site assessments, and H&S meetings.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years' experience in recycling or hazardous environments, NEBOSH or equivalent, and ISO internal auditor qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Essential NEBOSH or equivalent health and safety qualification.
  • Environmental management or OH&S degree/certification.
  • ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001 internal auditor qualification (or willingness to obtain).

Responsibilities

  • SHEQ & compliance manager for an electrical waste recycling plant, leading strategy to ensure legal and corporate standards.
  • Contribute to and implement Enva’s SHEQ strategy, enhance safety training, and health & safety meetings.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety training, and health & safety meetings.
  • Conduct regular site assessments and audits to uphold standards.
  • Oversee environmental monitoring: waste management, air emissions, water quality.
  • Ensure ISO accreditation and ongoing certification adherence.
  • Manage SEPA quarterly/annual returns with accuracy and timeliness.
  • Develop risk assessments and safe working methods across site operations.
  • Monitor and report accidents, implement corrective actions.
  • Prepare induction packs and manage contractor inductions/visitor access.
  • Coordinate insurance compliance and external training providers; deliver internal training.

Compensation: £50,000 / year

Description

Reporting directly to the Operations Director for Enva’s e-waste division, the SHEQ Manager will lead all Health, Safety, Environmental, and Quality (SHEQ) activities at the Perth, Scotland site and play an integral role on the senior operations management team. The primary objective is to uphold legal compliance, reduce risks, and promote a safe and healthy work environment. This hand-on, site-based role involves conducting toolbox talks, training sessions, site assessments, and H&S meetings, while also developing and implementing strategies to achieve SHEQ excellence.

The ideal candidate will have a strong SHEQ background with people management experience, ideally within electrical recycling or similar hazardous environments. A NEBOSH or equivalent certification is essential.

Key Responsibilities
  • SHEQ & and compliance manager for an electrical waste recycling plant, supporting SHEQ strategy to ensure compliance with legal and corporate standards.
  • Contribute to and implement Enva’s SHEQ strategy to maintain compliance and enhance safety training, and Health & Safety meetings to reinforce safe practices.
  • Lead toolbox talks, safety training, and Health & Safety meetings.
  • Conduct regular site assessments and audits to uphold operational standards.
  • Environmental monitoring: Oversee waste management, air emissions and water quality to comply with environmental regulations.
  • Ensure ISO Accreditation and ongoing adherence to certification requirements.
  • Manage SEPA quarterly and annual returns, ensuring accuracy and timeliness.
  • Develop risk assessments and establish safe working methods across site operations.
  • Monitor and report accidents and incidents, implementing corrective actions where needed.
  • Prepare Induction packs, conduct inductions for new staff, and manage access control for contractors and visitors.
  • Maintain Insurance compliance; source and coordinate external training providers while delivering internal training.
  • Ensure site security protocols are upheld and respond to out-of-hours emergencies like fires or major breakdowns.

  • Monday to Friday
  • Flexibility required for out of hours emergencies
  • 40 hours per week
  • Some domestic travel – UK/Ireland
Skills, Knowledge and Expertise

Qualifications
Essential

  • NEBOSH or equivalent Health and Safety qualification.
  • Relevant degree or certification in Environmental Management, Occupational Health & Safety, or a related field.
  • ISO 9001, 14001, or 45001 internal auditor qualification (or willingness to obtain).

Desirable

  • Additional certifications in waste management or e-waste recycling.
  • Membership with relevant professional bodies (e.g., IOSH, IIRSM).

Technical Competencies
Essential

  • Comprehensive knowledge of UK health, safety, and environmental legislation and industry standards
  • Significant experience in a recycling plant environment or a similar hazardous environment
  • Proven ability to develop safe systems of work, carry out H&S audits, conduct risk assessments, and deliver safety training.
  • Experience with SEPA or equivalent regulatory reporting

Desirable

  • Experience in operations management, particularly in the recycling or engineering sectors.
  • Experience in developing and managing emergency response protocols.

  • Strong leadership and people management skills, with at least 5 years of experience in a recycling/engineering environment.
  • Excellent communication and influencing skills.
  • Ability to make decisions under pressure and drive a proactive safety culture.
  • High level of attention to detail.
  • Analytical mindset, with the ability to identify risks and implement corrective actions effectively.

Desirable

  • Strong advocacy for SHEQ best practices and a commitment to continuous improvement across the business.

Experience
Essential

  • At least 5 years of people management experience in a recycling or engineering environment.
  • Demonstrable experience of developing safe systems of work.
  • Significant experience in conducting site audits.
  • Experience with managing contractor inductions.

Desirable

  • Experience in operations management within a recycling or e-waste environment.
  • Familiarity with managing insurance compliance and emergency preparedness procedures.

Physical Demands

  • Ability to work in a physically demanding, site-based environment.
  • Ability to conduct site inspections and audits, which may involve walking, climbing, and standing for extended periods.
  • Willingness to respond to out-of-hours emergencies and provide support in incidents like fires or major breakdowns.
  • Willingness to travel occasionally (if required) to meet with stakeholders in different regions or attend off-site meetings.
  • Ability to work with hazardous materials and use personal protective equipment (PPE) where required.
