Job summary

Enva is seeking a Baler Operative to safely operate baling equipment and process recyclable materials at Colwick. You will ensure materials are sorted, compacted, stored and prepared for dispatch in line with company procedures, quality standards and health and safety rules.

The role involves routine inspections, housekeeping, and recording production data. You will work shifts, support other site activities, and contribute to meeting production targets while maintaining high standards of safety

Qualifications

  • Adhere to health and safety practices in an industrial setting.

  • Able to work under pressure and maintain output quality.
  • Demonstrate basic literacy and numeracy for record-keeping.

Responsibilities

  • Operate baling machinery safely and efficiently to process recyclable materials.
  • Monitor baler performance and report faults, damage, or maintenance needs.
  • Ensure produced bales meet weight, density, and quality specs.
  • Conduct routine inspections and keep the baling area clean.
  • Remove contamination from materials to maintain quality.
  • Maintain production records and complete operational paperwork.
  • Assist with loading/unloading and movement of materials using authorised equipment.
  • Keep work areas clean, tidy and hazard-free.
  • Follow site procedures, safe systems of work, and environmental rules.
  • Support other operational activities as directed by management.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to achieve targets and site objectives.
  • Report accidents, near misses, and environmental incidents promptly.

Description

The Baler Operative is responsible for the safe and efficient operation of baling equipment used in the processing of recyclable materials. The role ensures materials are sorted, compacted, stored, and prepared for dispatch in accordance with company procedures, quality standards, and health and safety requirements.


Key Responsibilities


  • Operate baling machinery safely and efficiently to process recyclable materials.

  • Monitor baler performance and report any faults, damage, or maintenance requirements.

  • Ensure all bales are produced to required specifications, including weight, density, and quality standards.

  • Conduct routine inspections and basic housekeeping around the baling area.

  • Remove contamination from materials where required to maintain product quality.

  • Maintain accurate production records and complete operational paperwork as required.

  • Assist with loading, unloading, and movement of materials using authorised equipment.

  • Ensure work areas are kept clean, tidy, and free from hazards.

  • Follow all site procedures, safe systems of work, and environmental regulations.

  • Support other operational activities across the site as directed by management.

  • Work collaboratively with colleagues to achieve production targets and site objectives.

  • Report accidents, near misses, unsafe conditions, and environmental incidents immediately.

  • Participate in safety briefings, toolbox talks, and training sessions.

  • Good understanding of health and safety practices in an industrial environment.

Desirable


  • Previous experience operating balers or recycling processing equipment.

  • Counterbalance Forklift Truck licence.

  • Experience within the waste management, recycling, or manufacturing sector.

  • Knowledge of recyclable material grades and contamination standards.
