Overview

Job Title: SHEQ Advisor – Power & Electrical Projects

Salary: £55 - 60kpa + Package + Vehicle or Allowance

Location: London (with travel to various sites along the M4 corridor)

Contract Type: Full-time, Permanent

Due to project timescales, sponsorship is not available for this role.

About the Role: Due to significant business growth and recent contract wins, our client is seeking an experienced SHEQ Advisor to support their expanding operations across multiple Power and Electrical infrastructure projects.

Based in Borehamwood, with travel to project sites on the M4 between Slough and Swindon as needed, you’ll play a critical role in ensuring health, safety, environmental and quality standards are upheld across the business. Reporting to the SHEQ Manager, you’ll provide expert leadership, advice, training, and assurance to internal teams and contractors alike.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead by example in promoting a strong safety-first culture across all projects.
  • Ensure compliance with statutory obligations including RIDDOR, and internal SHEQ procedures.
  • Provide specialist advice on SHEQ policies, procedures, and legal compliance.
  • Monitor and review contractor SHEQ performance against project and contractual requirements.
  • Investigate accidents and near misses, producing clear reports with root cause analysis and recommendations.
  • Promote the reporting and reduction of near-miss incidents.
  • Monitor and ensure the adequacy of site welfare and working conditions.
  • Support the SHEQ Manager in delivering training, audits, and improvement programmes.
  • Recommend corrective or disciplinary action where safety responsibilities are not met.
  • Work collaboratively across teams and with external stakeholders to uphold SHEQ standards.
What We’re Looking For
  • Proven experience in a similar SHEQ role within the construction, utilities or civil engineering sectors – ideally within the power or energy industry.
  • Strong communication skills and the ability to present confidently to all levels.
  • Ability to analyse risk, solve problems logically, and drive improvement initiatives.
  • Excellent report writing skills, including incident investigations and RCA.
  • Up-to-date knowledge of UK health & safety legislation.
  • Capable of working independently while contributing to team goals.
Essential Qualifications & Requirements
  • NEBOSH Diploma, NVQ Level 6 or NCRQ Level 6 (or equivalent).
  • CSCS or EUSR Card (General Health & Safety).
  • Full UK Driving Licence (essential).
  • Experience working within live substations
  • Understanding of NERS Accreditation and working in DNO/IDNO environments
  • Experience of working with SHEQ in a CDM2015 context is desirable
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.
