Job summary

Swindon Borough Council is seeking a caring Sheltered Housing Officer to deliver high-quality housing management and support across sheltered schemes. You’ll build positive relationships with residents, support independent living and promote safe, welcoming communities.

The role covers inductions, viewings, tenancy sustainment, wellbeing checks, and coordination with partner agencies. You must have strong communication, IT, and organisational skills, plus the ability to manage a varied caseload

Qualifications

• Experience of delivering housing management, sheltered housing, or similar customer-focused service.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills with older and vulnerable residents.
• Experience of managing a varied caseload and balancing priorities.
• Ability to identify support needs, assess risk and work with partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.
• Knowledge of housing legislation, tenancy management, safeguarding and social housing practice, or the ability to develop quickly.
• Experience of undertaking property, estate or health and safety inspections, or a willingness to learn.
• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.
• Excellent IT skills with the ability to maintain accurate records and use housing management systems.
• A compassionate, proactive approach to supporting customers and delivering high-quality housing services.
• A commitment to promoting independence, wellbeing and thriving communities.

Responsibilities

• Provide housing management across sheltered schemes, including inductions and viewings.
• Manage tenancy sustainment, low-level anti-social behaviour, wellbeing checks and housing-related support.
• Manage alarm systems and complete health and safety checks.
• Conduct scheme inspections and coordinate with colleagues to keep buildings safe.
• Collaborate with Housing, Adult Social Care, Health partners and voluntary organisations.
• Identify support needs, respond to safeguarding concerns and help residents maintain independence.
• Respond to customer enquiries and complaints and use data to improve services.

Your next role

We\'re looking for a caring, proactive and customer-focused Sheltered Housing Officer to join our Housing Team.

This is an exciting opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of older and vulnerable residents by delivering high-quality housing management and housing-related support across our sheltered housing schemes. You\'ll become a trusted and visible presence within our schemes, building positive relationships with residents and helping to create safe, welcoming communities where people can live independently and thrive.

Working across a portfolio of sheltered housing schemes, you\'ll provide a comprehensive housing management service, supporting residents through all stages of their tenancy. You\'ll undertake tenancy management activities including new tenant inductions, viewings, tenancy sustainment, low-level anti-social behaviour, wellbeing checks and housing-related support. You\'ll also manage alarm systems, complete health and safety and compliance checks, undertake scheme inspections and work closely with colleagues to ensure our buildings remain safe, secure and well maintained.

Working collaboratively with Housing colleagues, Adult Social Care, Health partners and voluntary organisations, you\'ll identify support needs, respond to safeguarding concerns, coordinate appropriate interventions and help residents maintain their independence for as long as possible. You\'ll also support resident engagement, respond to customer enquiries and complaints, and use data and customer insight to help improve services.

We\'re looking for someone who has:

• Experience of delivering housing management, sheltered housing, supported housing or a similar customer-focused service.
• Excellent communication and customer service skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with older and vulnerable residents.

• The ability to identify support needs, assess risk and work with partner agencies to achieve positive outcomes.

• Strong organisational skills and excellent attention to detail.

• A compassionate, proactive approach to supporting customers and delivering high-quality housing services.
• A commitment to promoting independence, wellbeing and thriving communities.

You must be fluent in the English language (as required by Part 7 of the Immigration Act for the effective performance of a customer-facing role).

The ability to travel throughout the Borough is essential. The successful candidate must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to a vehicle and appropriate business insurance.

You will be subject to an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check.
