Job summary

Doncaster Integrated Sexual Health Service is seeking a part-time Sexual Health Receptionist to warmly welcome service users and manage check-ins in a busy clinic. You will handle appointments, take calls, and signpost to appropriate services while ensuring accurate records and strong patient confidentiality.

The role requires good communication, discretion, teamwork and the ability to work across clinic and community settings. Hours include a consistent rota across open times.

Qualifications

• Experience in customer-facing roles is beneficial, with a focus on maintaining confidentiality.
• Excellent communication skills and a professional, friendly manner.
• Ability to work as part of a multidisciplinary team and manage multiple tasks.
• Strong organisational skills to book appointments and maintain records.

Responsibilities

• Welcome and check in service users face-to-face and by phone.
• Register and check in service users; keep electronic records accurate and up to date.
• Book, change, and cancel appointments following service procedures.
• Signpost people to appropriate services and escalate clinical or safeguarding concerns.
• Support routine referrals, results administration, follow-up activities and missed appointments.
• Handle sensitive personal information discreetly and protect confidentiality.
• Communicate about sexual health in an open, respectful, non-judgemental way.
• Keep reception and waiting areas safe, tidy and welcoming.
• Work as part of a team across the main clinic and community settings to ensure reliable reception cover.

Contract: Permanent, part-time

Hours: 36 hours per week

Salary: NHS pay band 2 £24,465

About the Role

You will be part of the Doncaster Integrated Sexual Health Service, supporting people accessing contraception, STI and HIV-related care and other sexual health support. Based at our High Fishergate clinic.

This is a busy, varied role. You will welcome and check in service users, answer telephone enquiries, manage appointments and records, complete routine administration and signpost people to the right support. You will work closely with clinicians and the wider multidisciplinary team to keep the service running safely and smoothly.

What You'll Be Doing

• Being a welcoming and professional first point of contact, face‑to‑face and by telephone.
• Registering and checking in service users and keeping electronic records accurate and up to date.
• Booking, changing and cancelling appointments in line with service procedures.
• Signposting people appropriately and passing clinical, urgent or safeguarding concerns to the right colleague.
• Supporting routine referrals, results administration, follow‑up activity and missed‑appointment processes.
• Handling sensitive personal information discreetly and protecting confidentiality in everything you do.
• Communicating about sexual health in an open, respectful and non‑judgemental way.
• Helping to keep reception and waiting areas safe, tidy and welcoming.
• Working as part of a team across the main clinic and community settings and contributing to reliable reception cover.

About You

We are interested in how you work with people as much as where you have worked before. Previous healthcare or sexual health experience would be useful, but it is not essential if you can show strong customer‑service skills, discretion, reliability and the right values.

You will need to be comfortable working in a sexual health environment and speaking with people of different ages, identities, backgrounds and circumstances. You should be able to remain kind and professional even when someone is distressed or challenging, and understand that confidentiality and accurate information really matter.

Working Pattern

The service is open Monday-Thursday 08:30–19:00 and Tuesday and Friday 09:00–17:00. The successful candidate will work a rota across these opening hours, starting 15 minutes before the clinic opens.
