Job summary

Van Elle Limited is seeking a Setting Out Engineer to join its geotechnical and ground engineering projects on nationwide sites. You will set out piles and beams, level and survey on site, and liaise between engineers and the construction team to ensure plans are accurate.

You will also provide setting-out support, manage your time to cover multiple sites, conduct QA checks, and assist with subcontractor supervision while maintaining safety and quality standards.

Qualifications

• Knowledge of buildings, construction and reinforced concrete is essential.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills are required.
• Strong organisational skills with high attention to detail and accuracy.
• Competent in all Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
• Ability to read drawings and interpret data for setting out.
• CSCS card and numeracy skills are required.

Responsibilities

• Setting out piles and beams on site and recording as-builds.
• Setting out, levelling and surveying on site to ensure accuracy.
• Coordinate with engineers and construction team to ensure plans are correct.
• Provide setting-out support to the team and report progress to survey department.
• Plan own time to manage multiple sites and maintain QA records.
• Assist supervising subcontractors and check quantities for calculations.
• Attend site meetings and produce progress reports for client and contracts manager.
• Daily setting out and monitoring of works in line with HSEQ.

Job description

We have an exciting opportunity for Setting Out Engineers to join the UK’s largest and most diverse geotechnical and ground engineering contractor. Nationwide locations.

What you'll be doing

• Setting out piles and beams on site including recording as build’s and reporting any discrepancies.
• Setting out, levelling and surveying on site
• Liaising between engineers and the construction team, to ensure plans and drawings are accurate
• Supply reinforced concrete setting out support to construction team
• Report site progress to engineering and survey department
• Co-ordinating Pile/Beam layouts with site layout drawings
• Planning and managing your own time to ensure all sites can be catered for
• Conduct quality control checks and build records and provide site technical support
• Assist in the supervising of subcontractors on site setting out
• Check quantities for accuracy of calculations
• Liaise with sub contractors, planners, quantity surveyors and general workforce
• Attending regular site meetings and to keep client and contracts manager informed of progress made
• Prepare reports and assist with day to day site management
• Daily setting out and monitoring of the Contract works and Quality Assurance record keeping.
• Ensuring that all the Works Requirements are undertaken in line with best practices and specified HSEQ initiatives
• Any other tasks that you may reasonably be required to undertake.

Who we're looking for

• Knowledge of buildings, construction and reinforced concrete

• Ability to work under pressure
• Competent in all Microsoft applications, especially office – Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
• Be able to understand and interpret data
• Practical and logical; able to solve problems quickly
• Be able to prioritise and organise own work effectivelyWillingness to work flexibly to support the overall aims of the team and changing priorities
• Previously worked as a Setting out Engineer, Site Engineer, or Engineering Surveyor, with sound knowledge in surveying and construction procedures
• Numeracy and the ability to make mathematical calculations
• Auto CAD Experience
• Valid CSCS Card

Other Requirements:

• Eligible to work and live in the UK.
• Flexibility to travel and work in the UK.
• A full driving licence, that is valid in the UK (desirable)
