Job summary

Ashfield District Council is seeking an experienced Service Manager to lead and develop our waste services, ensuring high quality delivery, cost effectiveness and strict adherence to Health & Safety standards. Experience in strategy development and performance management in the public sector would be advantageous.

The role will empower Waste Team Leaders, drive modern practices and technologies, oversee reporting, coordinate with partners, and prepare for the October 2027 weekly food waste

Job description

We are looking for an experienced forward-thinking individual who is enthusiastic about delivering quality timely waste services.

The ServiceManagers role is to support the strategic environmental aims of the Council and to manage and organise ourwasteservices to ensure (amongst other things):

• High levels of service quality
• Maximumcost effectiveness and efficiency
• Adherence to all relevant Health & Safety Standards
• To empower thewasteTeam Leaders to activelymanagerstaff behaviour, absenteeism and performance in line with corporate processes.

This individual will also be responsible for providing effective advice and support to the other service managers within Neighbourhoods and across the Council with regards to waste collection.

This individual will be key to creating a dynamic flexible service that meets the needs of the residents and members.

The Council will be introducing weekly food waste collections in October 2027 and this individual will be required to lead on this project.

The ability to write reports and policies to a high standard will be required in this role.

This person will be an experienced people manager and bring new ideas on how the service can be improved and updated and bring in modern practices and technological ideas.
