Job description

Job description

We are looking for a dedicated professional to manage the operational delivery of the employment and skills team and its projects. As part of the Economy, Skills and Culture leadership team, you will bring your expertise and passion to lead the development and delivery of services and contracts to deliver excellent support for residents and businesses.

It is an exciting time to join the council, with the chance to influence delivery of the new employment and skills strategy, and commission projects and services, as well as grow existing ones. You will be instrumental in the design, delivery, and commissioning of programmes that improve opportunities for learning; deliver employment progression amongst communities; respond to the demands of the labour market and support businesses with their training and recruitment needs.

This challenge calls for a leader and specialist in the field, who can inspire, engage, and influence internal and external partners to take the right steps to achieving a whole systems approach that improves social and economic inclusion; tackles inequalities; improves skills; creates jobs and builds a talent pipeline for future economic success.

You will be able to develop integrated ways of working, secure value for money and connect quickly with people. You will listen to what others think and build solutions accordingly. Your strategic, tactical, and emotional intelligence will ensure you are the kind of collaborative and encouraging leader who can strengthen connectivity across the council, develop relationships with businesses and education partners, national agencies and the voluntary and community sector.

Are you ready to join a leadership team that is dedicated to delivering Sheffield’s key ambitions? If you are, we want to hear from you.

We are investing in our workforce and are promoting opportunities to our under-represented groups. We value equality, diversity and inclusion and are focused on increasing the diversity of our workforce, particularly the number of Black, Asian, Minority Ethnic, Disabled and LGBTQ+ people, so that our teams reflect the communities in the city we serve. We are also supporting staff with unpaid caring responsibilities to work flexibly.

It is a great time to join us and we welcome your application.

Under the Disability Confident Scheme, disabled applicants, who meet the essential criteria of this job, are guaranteed an interview.

Full-time employees work 37 hours for 52 weeks of the year and we offer a generous holiday entitlement. We are open to discussions about a wide range of flexible working opportunities which benefit you and the Council, including reduced hour contracts, working part time or as a job share.

If you are appointed to this role, your starting salary will be at the bottom of the grade. If you provide payslip evidence that your basic pay is greater than the bottom of the grade, we will consider starting you at the point of minimum advantage within the grade.

This is a politically restricted post.
