Job description

Service Engineer – EV Charging / EV Charging Engineer

£45,000 + Company EV, UK-Wide Travel (England & Wales predominantly)

Are you an experienced Service Engineer, EV Charging Engineer, EV Service Engineer or Electrical Service Engineer looking to develop your career within the UK's growing electric vehicle charging industry?

This is an excellent opportunity to join an established UK manufacturer and supplier of EV charging technology, providing technical support, fault diagnosis, maintenance, testing and commissioning of AC and DC EV charging equipment across commercial and private customer sites.

As a Service Engineer – EV Charging, you will work with a range of EV charging technologies, supporting customers and installation partners while also working closely with internal engineering and R&D teams. The role offers the opportunity to build specialist experience across DC rapid charging, electrical testing, commissioning, OCPP, firmware and connected EV charging systems.

The position involves frequent UK travel, predominantly across England and Wales, and would suit an engineer who enjoys working independently, solving technical problems, and dealing directly with customers and contractors.

About the Company

The company is an established UK business specialising in EV charging technology, supplying and supporting both AC and DC charging solutions.

With the continued expansion of electric vehicle charging infrastructure across the UK, the business is growing its engineering capability and requires an experienced Field Service Engineer to support its expanding customer and contractor network.

The engineering team works across the complete EV charging technology lifecycle, from product development and factory testing through to installation support, commissioning, maintenance and field service.

This means the role offers more than traditional field service work. Your experience and feedback from customer sites will also help internal engineering and R&D teams identify recurring issues, improve products and enhance the overall customer experience.

The Role – Service Engineer / EV Charging Engineer

As a Service Engineer specialising in EV charging, you will be responsible for the testing, inspection, configuration, commissioning, maintenance and fault finding of EV charging equipment.

You will work on both AC EV chargers and DC rapid charging systems, attending customer and contractor sites to investigate technical problems and restore equipment to operation.

A significant part of the role will involve diagnosing electrical and technical faults, carrying out preventative maintenance, and providing technical assistance to customers and installation partners.

You will also provide remote technical support when required, helping contractors and customers work through fault-finding activities while they are on site.

Because modern EV chargers are increasingly connected systems, the role also involves troubleshooting issues relating to charger firmware, applications, communications, connectivity and OCPP.

Key Responsibilities
  • Attend customer and contractor sites across the UK to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair AC and DC EV charging equipment.
  • Carry out planned and reactive inspection, servicing and preventative maintenance in accordance with technical and manufacturer requirements.
  • Test, commission and configure DC EV chargers at the company's facilities when required.
  • Provide remote technical support to customers and contractors, helping them identify faults and implement appropriate solutions.
  • Carry out electrical testing and fault diagnosis on EV charging equipment and associated systems.
  • Test and troubleshoot EV charger firmware, applications, communications and cloud integrations.
  • Investigate recurring technical problems and provide feedback to internal engineering and R&D teams.
  • Assist with the development, testing and improvement of EV charging products and associated technologies.
  • Complete accurate service reports, maintenance records and technical documentation.
  • Maintain high standards of customer service and professional technical support.
About You – EV Service Engineer / EV Charging Engineer

We are looking for an experienced EV charging engineer with a strong electrical background and practical experience working with EV charging equipment.

You will ideally have hands‑on experience with DC rapid charging systems, combined with strong electrical testing, commissioning and fault‑finding skills.

You should be comfortable working independently at customer and contractor sites, investigating technical issues and identifying practical solutions. As the role is customer‑facing, you will also need to communicate clearly with customers and installation partners and be able to explain technical problems and solutions effectively.

This would suit an engineer who enjoys a combination of field service, electrical engineering, diagnostics, customer support and emerging EV technology.

Essential Experience & Qualifications

You will ideally have:

  • Previous experience as an EV Service Engineer, EV Charging Engineer, EV Charger Engineer, Electrical Service Engineer or similar.
  • Practical experience working with EV DC charging equipment, ideally including DC rapid charging systems.
  • 18th Edition Wiring Regulations qualification.
  • 2391 Inspection & Testing qualification.
  • ECS Card.
  • Practical experience of electrical testing, commissioning and fault diagnosis.
  • Experience with OCPP (Open Charge Point Protocol) and EV charging communications.
  • Experience troubleshooting technical issues involving EV chargers, software, firmware, applications or connectivity.
  • Strong customer‑facing communication skills.
  • Full UK driving licence.
  • Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the UK.
  • Experience with both AC and DC charging systems would be particularly advantageous.
Why Apply?

The UK electric vehicle charging market continues to develop rapidly, creating increasing demand for engineers with specialist knowledge of EV charging infrastructure, DC rapid charging, electrical testing and connected charging technology.

This role provides the opportunity to develop your career within an established engineering business operating in a rapidly evolving technology sector.

You will gain exposure to a combination of field service engineering, EV charging technology, electrical diagnostics, commissioning, software and connected systems, while also having the opportunity to contribute feedback to product development and R&D activities.
