Job description

Job Title: EV DC Charger Field Service Engineer

Salary: £40,000 to £45,000

Location: UK-wide, ideally East Midlands based (Derby, Nottingham, Leicester, Northampton or Birmingham)

Why this role

DC charging is the fastest-growing part of the EV infrastructure market, and this is a chance to be at the sharp end of it. You'll be working on an established, proven range of DC chargers, from 40kW units up to 600kW rapid chargers, not a start-up's unreliable first-generation kit. That means your time goes on genuine fault diagnosis and repair, not endless low-quality callouts.

What you'll do

This is field maintenance and repair, not installation. Sites come to you via an in-house technical support team, once a charge point operator's own engineers are stuck or a hardware fault has been identified and a part needs replacing. You'll carry out planned inspection and maintenance, reactive fault diagnosis, and repairs across a genuinely varied site list, from a two-charger unit outside a pub or leisure centre to a logistics hub charging fleets of electric lorries. You'll write clear job reports after every visit, feed technical findings back to the product development team, and occasionally test firmware, apps and cloud integrations. You're never working in isolation: full technical support backup is a phone call away, and you'll typically keep Fridays (sometimes Mondays too) for paperwork and admin from home.

About the company

You'd be joining an established EV charging hardware manufacturer on a serious growth trajectory, targeting revenue growth from around £30 million to £65 million by 2030. The product range is expanding into combined DC charger and battery storage units, the client base includes major supermarkets and the MOD, and the business is starting to expand into Europe from next year, with core technical support staying UK based. It's a mature, credible operation, not a company still working out the basics of its own kit.

About you

You'll have at least two years's hands-on experience maintaining and repairing DC EV chargers, on any manufacturer's equipment, plus 18th Edition, an ECS card, 2391 Test and Inspection, OCPP protocol knowledge, and a full clean UK driving licence. You're autonomous, organised and IT-literate as well as hands-on, and you see a job through to completion rather than watching the clock. Be honest with yourself about the travel: sites are genuinely spread across the whole country, and you'll be away overnight regularly, with hotels fully covered. This suits someone happy to be on the road, not someone who needs to be home every night.

Rewards & growth
  • Salary of £40,000 to £45,000, a company EV as your mobile office, laptop, phone, tools and spare parts all provided.
  • You'll start with a week's induction at the company's Lincolnshire HQ.
  • There's 28 days' holiday including bank holidays, rising with service, and no formal on-call system: any extra hours worked are banked as time off rather than paid overtime.
  • Strong performers may also get involved delivering technical training to customers, a nice-to-have on top of the core role.
