Service Engineer - Gas Detection Systems

The Opportunity

We are looking for an experienced Service Engineer to join a specialist engineering organisation operating within the gas detection and industrial safety sector.

This is a remote, field-based position where you will be responsible for the installation, commissioning, servicing, maintenance and repair of gas detection systems at customer sites across the UK.

The position would suit a technically capable and self-motivated engineer who enjoys fault-finding, working directly with customers and taking responsibility for service activities in the field.

Previous experience within gas detection, industrial safety or process industries is essential for this position.

Key Responsibilities

• Install and commission gas detection equipment and systems at customer sites.
• Carry out planned preventative maintenance, servicing and repairs.
• Diagnose and troubleshoot electrical, electronic and electro-mechanical faults.
• Provide both on-site and remote technical support to customers.
• Investigate technical issues and provide effective solutions to minimise equipment downtime.
• Read and interpret technical documentation, wiring diagrams and system specifications.
• Complete service documentation and produce accurate reports following site visits.
• Ensure all work is completed in accordance with relevant procedures and safety standards.
• Communicate professionally with customers and provide technical advice where required.
• Identify opportunities to improve system performance, reliability and usability.
• Provide feedback to internal technical and engineering teams regarding recurring issues and potential product improvements.
• Manage your own workload and service visits while working remotely.
• Travel to customer locations as required.

About You

• Previous experience within gas detection, industrial safety or process industries - essential.
• Proven field service experience, including working independently at customer sites.
• Strong fault-finding and troubleshooting skills.
• Experience maintaining and repairing gas detection systems or comparable electronic, electrical or electro-mechanical equipment.
• A relevant technical qualification such as an apprenticeship, vocational qualification, HNC/HND or degree in engineering, electronics, instrumentation or a related discipline.
• The ability to understand wiring diagrams, technical specifications and engineering documentation.
• Strong customer-facing and communication skills.
• Experience providing technical support and guiding customers through fault resolution.
• The ability to work independently and manage your own schedule effectively.
• Good IT skills and confidence using digital reporting and communication tools.
• A valid UK driving licence and willingness to travel to customer sites.
• A UK passport.
