Job summary

Build Recruitment Limited is seeking an experienced Domestic Service & Breakdown Gas Engineer to operate across North and North East London. You will service, repair and maintain gas heating systems in social housing properties, ensuring safety and reliability for residents.

The role offers a competitive £42,000–£48,000 basic salary, a standard 8:00am–5:00pm schedule, and a 1-in-3 out-of-hours rota with a £120 standby payment and £30 per call-out.

Responsibilities

• Carry out annual domestic gas servicing and safety checks.

Service & Breakdown Gas Engineer

Location: North & North East London
Salary: £42,000 – £48,000 per annum, depending on experience
Hours: 8:00am – 5:00pm, Monday to Friday
Call-Out: 1 in 3 rota
Call-Out Standby: £120
Call-Out Rate: £30 per call-out
Potential Additional Earnings: £5,000 – £10,000 per year

About the Role

We are currently recruiting for an experienced Domestic Service & Breakdown Gas Engineer to work across North and North East London, carrying out gas servicing, breakdowns, repairs and maintenance across social housing properties.

This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced engineer looking for a permanent position with a competitive basic salary and the opportunity to significantly increase earnings through the 1-in-3 call-out rota.

The successful candidate will be responsible for completing a range of domestic gas servicing and breakdown works, ensuring appliances and heating systems are operating safely and efficiently while providing excellent customer service to residents.

Key Responsibilities

• Carry out annual domestic gas servicing and safety checks.
• Attend and diagnose domestic boiler breakdowns.
• Carry out fault finding and repair works on domestic heating systems.
• Repair and replace faulty boiler components where required.
• Service and maintain domestic gas appliances.
• Carry out landlord gas safety checks and complete relevant certification.
• Diagnose faults with central heating and hot water systems.
• Repair radiators, valves, pumps, thermostats and heating controls where required.
• Investigate and rectify heating and hot water faults.
• Carry out gas appliance safety checks and identify unsafe situations.
• Complete emergency gas repairs and make-safe works.
• Carry out responsive repairs within occupied social housing properties.
• Complete planned servicing and maintenance programmes.
• Work to agreed service levels, productivity targets and appointment times.
• Use PDA/handheld devices to receive jobs and accurately record completed works.
• Complete all relevant gas safety documentation and job records.
• Identify additional repairs and raise follow-on works where necessary.
• Work professionally and respectfully within residents' homes.
• Communicate clearly with tenants and explain repairs and servicing requirements.
• Maintain clean, safe and tidy working areas.
• Follow all relevant gas safety, health & safety and company procedures.
• Participate in the 1-in-3 out-of-hours call-out rota.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a Domestic Service & Breakdown Gas Engineer.
• Strong domestic boiler servicing and breakdown experience.
• Excellent fault-finding and diagnostic skills.
• Experience working on a range of domestic boiler manufacturers.
• Experience within social housing, housing association or property maintenance environments is highly desirable.
• Current Gas Safe registration.
• Relevant domestic ACS qualifications.
• Good understanding of gas safety and domestic heating systems.
• Full UK driving licence.
• Strong customer service and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently and manage a daily workload.
• Comfortable participating in an out-of-hours call-out rota.
