Job summary

Balfour Beatty plc is seeking a Senior Works Manager/Works Manager to lead on the A66 Northern Trans-Pennine scheme. Based at Penrith, Cumbria, you’ll oversee safety, resourcing, and programme execution for rail/highways works.

A strong safety track record and Sentinel PTS are essential, with experience in managing direct and subcontract teams. You will coordinate inductions, toolbox talks, and daily records while ensuring HSEQ compliance and effective stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

• Experience in rail and highway environments.
• Sentinel PTS card holder.
• Experience managing direct and subcontract teams.
• Strong health and safety record.
• Understanding Zero Harm principles.
• Ability to build relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Good communication and decisive thinking.
• M&E experience would be an advantage.

Responsibilities

• Ensure works comply with H&S laws and RAMS.
• Promote Zero Harm and safety initiatives.
• Keep up to date with legislation and cascade to team.
• Complete daily checks and records.
• Ensure adequate resources on site with competence.
• Manage site plant and tools efficiently.
• Oversee environmental controls on projects.
• Run site inductions, toolbox talks, and safety briefings.
• Follow HSEQ procedures.
• Plan and monitor site works programme.
• Manage logistics.
• Order and manage materials to minimise wastage.
• Implement quality control.
• Produce comprehensive daily records.
• Provide reports/investigations and implement improvements.
• Brief supervisors on policies.
• Ensure Black Hat assessments on supervisors.
• Collaborate with site teams to develop and monitor programmes.
