Job summary
Thorn SDS is urgently seeking a Senior Infrastructure Engineer (Windows & VDI) to manage enterprise Windows Server environments and virtual desktop platforms in a UK defence programme. You’ll work onsite in Corsham, delivering 2nd/3rd line support and driving resilience across Microsoft infrastructure.
This role requires strong Windows Server, Active Directory and VDI experience, with ITIL-aligned incident and change processes.
Qualifications
- Experience administering Windows Server 2016, 2019 and 2022.
- Hands-on Active Directory, Group Policy, DNS and DHCP.
- 2nd/3rd line support for Windows infrastructure and VDI.
- Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops and VMware Horizon experience.
- Familiarity with ITIL incident, problem and change management.
- Security-conscious in secure, defence environments.
Responsibilities
- Provide advanced 2nd and 3rd line support for Windows infrastructure and VDI.
- Maintain enterprise Windows Server environments and core Microsoft services.
- Support Citrix Virtual Apps & Desktops and VMware Horizon environments.
- Deploy OS updates, security patches and infrastructure improvements.
- Monitor health, performance and capacity to ensure availability.
- Investigate issues and perform root cause analysis.
- Contribute to incident, problem and change management processes.
- Collaborate with networking, apps and service teams to improve resilience.
- Produce technical documentation and runbooks.
