Job summary

Alexander Associates in Glasgow is seeking a Principal Design Engineer to lead multi-disciplinary water and wastewater projects within the UK water sector. You will oversee design and delivery of pipelines, treatment facilities and related assets, working with Design Managers and Principal Engineers to ensure technical excellence.

You will mentor engineers, review calculations, and drive best practices while coordinating with construction teams and client stakeholders on complex schemes.

Qualifications

• Must hold a degree in civil engineering or equivalent.
• Chartered Engineer (CEng) or working towards chartership.
• Experience in contractor, consultancy, or design-and-build environments.
• Solid knowledge of water and wastewater assets and associated civil structures.
• Strong understanding of health, safety and quality management systems.

Responsibilities

• Provide technical leadership across multidisciplinary water and wastewater projects.
• Deliver high-quality engineering solutions with Design Managers and Principal Engineers.
• Act as a technical authority to resolve complex engineering challenges.
• Ensure designs meet standards, regulations, and client/project objectives.
• Provide governance and technical assurance across the discipline.
• Coordinate with other engineering disciplines for integrated delivery.
• Support procurement, construction, commissioning and site teams with expertise.
• Drive innovation and engineering best practice.
• Mentor and develop engineers and designers.
• Provide technical oversight and line management where required.
• Build relationships with clients, suppliers and stakeholders.
• Lead design reviews, progress meetings and site meetings.
