Job summary

Bradford Council is seeking a Waste Collections Manager to lead daily operations across the district, covering domestic and commercial services, with responsibility for up to 240 staff and around 80 vehicles.

You will ensure staffing, performance data analysis, training, and ongoing improvements while coordinating with Fleet, Street Cleansing, and Finance teams to maintain high service levels.

Qualifications

• Waste management, collection and disposal legislation.
• Operational management of frontline staff.
• Vehicle operations and/or route optimisation.

Responsibilities

• Manage daily operations, ensuring routes are fully staffed, able to complete programmed work and minimise disruption, including recruitment/onboarding of staff.
• Liaise with key stakeholders to ensure best-practice is followed and new processes trialled and introduced as required.
• Manage data from In-Cab devices and Body Cameras for performance management.
• Attend accidents on public highways and ensure forms are completed.
• Prepare and assist in presenting reports to the Head of Service and Assistant Director.
• Provide induction for staff and keep SOPs up to date and communicated regularly.
• Carry out annual appraisals linked to supervision and assess training needs.
• Arrange all relevant training to ensure key legal requirements for waste collections are managed.
• Organise and chair regular staff meetings with up to 240 staff and communicate key information.
• Identify actions from concerns/complaints regarding service delivery.
• Carry out risk assessments and review all areas of waste collections and depot safety.
• Directly responsible to Waste Collection Service Manager and exercise initiative within policies.
• Lead to deliver a service to over 225,000 domestic properties and over 3,000 commercial customers.
• Liaise with stakeholders across the Council to ensure continuity of service.
• Attend monthly management reviews to adapt to new challenges.
