Job summary

Hawk Hiring in Kettering is seeking a confident Vehicle Technician for a 5-day week at a respected family-run independent workshop. You’ll handle heavy repair work and take ownership of major tasks in a 6‑technician team that values clean, precision craftsmanship.

Salary is £35,000–£38,000 per year (DOE) with a Monday–Friday 08:00–17:30 schedule, no weekends, generous holiday allowance and a company pension. The workshop is equipped with modern diagnostic suites and tools.

Qualifications

• NVQ Level 3 / IMI Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair.
• MOT Licence preferred, not essential.
• Full UK Driving Licence required.

Responsibilities

• Take lead ownership of major mechanical repairs (engine overhauls, timing chains, cambelts, clutches, gearboxes).
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults using modern diagnostic equipment.
• Perform routine servicing, preventative maintenance and vehicle health checks (VHC).
• Collaborate with fellow technicians to ensure right-first-time turnarounds.

Core Responsibilities

• Take lead ownership of major mechanical repairs, including engine overhauls, timing chains, cambelts, clutches, and gearboxes
• Diagnose complex mechanical and electrical faults using modern diagnostic equipment
• Perform routine vehicle servicing, preventative maintenance, and comprehensive health checks (VHC)
• Execute Class 4 MOT tests and safety inspections (if licensed)
• Collaborate closely with fellow technicians and service staff to maintain smooth, right-first-time turnarounds

Candidate Profile

• Technical Mastery: Confident time-served mechanic skilled in deep engine work, timing systems, and major component replacements
• Qualifications: NVQ Level 3 / IMI Level 3 in Vehicle Maintenance & Repair (or equivalent time-served background)
• MOT License: Active DVSA MOT Tester License is preferred, but not essential for the right candidate
• Character & Fit: Reliable, team-oriented professional with pride in clean, precision craftsmanship
• Requirements: Full UK Driving Licence
