Job summary

Diamond Light Source in Harwell, Oxfordshire, seeks a Senior Vacuum Electrical Technician for a 3-year fixed-term, onsite position. You will provide electrical support for vacuum systems, including design reviews, testing, and calibration of vacuum instrumentation across accelerators and beamlines.

You will lead and train staff, develop procedures, and ensure safety when wiring, testing and fault-finding LV/HV electrical systems.

Qualifications

Hold ONC/OND/City & Guilds Electrical/Electronic qualification or equivalent.
Ability to read electrical and mechanical drawings and circuit diagrams.
Experience with soldering, crimping, cable assembly and rack wiring.
Proficient with oscilloscopes and multimeters.
Capable of making off cables with LV/HV connectors.
Skilled in testing and fault-finding electrical systems with proper safety practices.

Responsibilities

Provide guidance and supervision to technical staff on vacuum instrumentation projects, reviewing electrical designs before issue.
Lead development of test, commissioning, fault-finding and repair procedures for vacuum instrumentation systems.
Develop and deliver training on vacuum systems instrumentation and specialised cable construction, testing, installation.
Maintain and troubleshoot instrumentation and control equipment used on girders and ovens.
Support installation, testing, commissioning and fault-finding of vacuum control systems during upgrades.
Carry out risk assessments and write method statements for vacuum electrical systems.
