Job summary

Diamond Light Source in Harwell, Oxfordshire invites applications for a Mechanical Technician in the Diamond Insertion Device group on a 2-year fixed term contract. The role focuses on mechanical assembly, testing, installation and upgrading of insertion devices used in experiments.

You will inspect items to drawings, perform machining to drawings and fixtures, and assist with maintenance; some flexibility in hours and possible local travel are required.

Qualifications

• ONC or GNVQ level 2, or equivalent.
• Ability to understand mechanical drawings and carry out assembly tasks including soldering.
• Experience in cryogenics, high temperatures, magnetic fields and/or high pressures, ultra high vacuum, specialist gases, cooling water.

Responsibilities

• Mechanical assembly, testing, installation, maintenance and upgrading of insertion devices.
• Inspect items to drawings.
• Machining to drawings and fixtures.
• General laboratory/workshop duties.
