Overview

Pen Underwriting Risk Managed Commercial is looking for an experienced, Senior Underwriter to join our team. The role will focus on underwriting and servicing new, existing, or both new and existing accounts. Using sound judgment, industry knowledge, and discernment, you will evaluate new business and contribute to income, profit, and EBITDAC. You will also provide mentorship to junior team members, demonstrating exemplary knowledge, attitude, and behaviors.

How you'll make an impact

• Maintain and grow a renewal portfolio, handling rating and adjustment enquiries from your allocated client portfolio.
• Develop your client portfolio through new business opportunities.
• Handle technical claim cover requests.
• Coordinate with brokers, insurers, accounts, and claims functions as required.
• Review and sign off referrals from Underwriters and Assistant Underwriters with strong attention to detail.
• Provide technical training and development to junior team members.
• Compile and interpret statistics, explaining data to others.
• Develop a thorough knowledge of Pen's coverage offerings.
• Operate within your delegated underwriting authority and utilize the company's preferred insurance pool.

About You

Your knowledge, experience, and skills include:

• CII/Dip CII qualification, educated to A-Level standard or equivalent.
• Strong understanding of risk exposure, acceptance criteria, and risk classifications in complex situations.
• Experience in servicing accounts and handling claim queries using technical knowledge.
• Ability to learn from various opportunities and sources.
• Experience in planning and prioritising renewals and seeking new business.
• Excellent communication and social skills with clients and colleagues.
• Good numeracy and literacy skills with keen attention to detail.
• Analytical problem-solving skills with initiative and a proactive attitude.
• Ownership, accountability, and a willingness to share expertise.
• Strong trading and negotiation skills to achieve excellent outcomes.
• Eligible to work in the UK.
