The Opportunity

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an experienced Senior Training and Requirements Lead to play a key role in the development and delivery of innovative training solutions for the UK Defence sector and other highly regulated industries. Working within a growing high-technology organisation specialising in training, simulation and consultancy, you will translate customer needs and emerging technologies into effective, technically robust and deliverable training solutions. Reporting to the Director of Training and Innovation, you will act as the senior internal training specialist and provide technical leadership, design recommendations and assurance across projects and consultancy assignments. You will contribute throughout the full Systems Approach to Training lifecycle, from initial customer engagement and training analysis through to solution design, acceptance and through-life support. This is an opportunity to influence technical standards, shape internal processes and help develop next-generation training capabilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead training discovery activities, customer workshops and requirements capture to define effective training solutions.
  • Lead or oversee Training Needs Analysis (TNA), including role analysis, training gap analysis and evaluation of training options and media.
  • Apply the Defence Systems Approach to Training (DSAT) and JSP 822, ensuring training solutions meet operational needs and relevant requirements.
  • Determine appropriate fidelity and technology requirements for simulation, synthetic and immersive training environments.

  • Provide technical oversight across projects and consultancies, reviewing training analysis, solution designs, evaluation approaches and acceptance plans.
  • Develop and maintain training methods, templates and assurance criteria aligned with customer policy and contractual obligations.
  • Advise senior stakeholders and project managers on technical risks, scope changes and decisions requiring customer agreement.
  • Use customer feedback, evaluation findings and lessons learned to drive continual improvement and inform research and development.
  • Support consultancy delivery, business planning, bids and the development of future training capabilities.
  • Coach and support training specialists and contractor associates where appropriate.
About You

You will be an experienced training specialist with a strong background in the analysis, design and assurance of complex technical or operational training programmes. You will combine a thorough understanding of training methodologies with the ability to engage senior customers, lead multidisciplinary teams and make sound technical recommendations. You will ideally bring:

  • Extensive experience leading Training Needs Analysis, training solution design and assurance within defence or a comparable regulated environment.
  • Strong practical knowledge of DSAT and JSP 822, or an equivalent systems-based approach to training.
  • An understanding of training media, fidelity analysis and the selection of appropriate training technologies.
  • Experience defining training requirements, maintaining traceability and supporting verification, validation, evaluation and acceptance.
  • Experience leading technical workstreams, reviewing specialist outputs and resolving complex training design challenges.
  • Experience acting as a Training Technical Authority or in an equivalent technical assurance role.
  • Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills, with the confidence to challenge assumptions and influence decisions.
Desirable Experience

The following would be advantageous:

  • Simulation, synthetic or immersive (XR) training environments.
  • Supporting competitive bids, cost estimates and training delivery models.
  • Requirements management tools such as IBM DOORS or ReqView.
  • Relevant professional qualifications or recognised training in DSAT, Defence Train the Trainer, learning and development, project management or systems engineering.
  • A postgraduate qualification or evidence of strong research and critical thinking skills.
What's on Offer?
  • 25 days' annual leave plus bank holidays and a birthday day off.
  • Option to purchase up to five additional days of annual leave after one year's service.
  • Family medical and dental cover.
  • 7% pension contribution through NEST.
  • Cycle to Work and electric vehicle schemes.
  • Five additional fully paid reservist volunteering days and two further paid volunteering days.
