Job summary

Penguin Recruitment is seeking an experienced Senior Planner to join their Bristol team, delivering a diverse portfolio of planning projects and leading applications and documentation. You will mentor junior staff and collaborate with clients, local authorities and multidisciplinary colleagues through the planning process.

The successful candidate will have RTPI-accredited qualifications (MRTPI desirable), proven planning project management experience, and strong communication skills.

Qualifications

• RTPI-accredited degree or postgraduate qualification in Town Planning.
• MRTPI qualified, or working towards Chartered membership.
• Experience in planning consultancy, local authority or development environment.
• Proven experience managing planning applications and development projects.
• Strong understanding of the UK planning system, planning legislation and policy framework.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Strong project management and organisational abilities.
• Experience managing multiple projects and competing deadlines.
• Confidence in building and maintaining relationships with clients and stakeholders.
• Commercial awareness and an interest in business development.
• Proactive, professional and collaborative approach.

Responsibilities

• Managing and delivering a varied portfolio of planning projects across a range of development sectors.
• Preparing, submitting and managing planning applications, appeals and associated documentation.
• Providing professional planning advice to clients throughout the development process.
• Preparing high-quality planning statements, reports and supporting documentation.
• Managing project programmes, budgets and key deadlines.
• Building and maintaining relationships with clients, local authorities and stakeholders.
• Coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and external consultants to support delivery.
• Attending client meetings, site visits and meetings with local planning authorities.
• Supporting business development activities and contributing to the growth of the planning team.
• Providing guidance and mentoring to junior team members.
• Keeping up to date with changes to planning legislation and policy.
