Tunbridge Wells Theatres are looking for a dynamic, innovative and highly motivated individual to work within our Theatre Department as a Band 3 Senior Theatre Support Worker!

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 2 years theatre experience and will have the knowledge and skills to provide care and assistance throughout the patients’ perioperative journey. You will be an important part of the multi-disciplinary team, bringing patients to theatres, checking documentation, and applying monitoring in the anaesthetic room. Inside theatre, you will assist the scrub team, clean after each surgery, and ensure that the stock is kept topped-up. There will also be portering duties, taking patients on beds and trolleys to and from the wards.

As a senior, you will be allocated an area of responsibility, and will be heavily involved with training new staff.

Main duties of the job

You must possess good communication skills and be highly motivated. Your rota will include day shifts, long days, weekends and nights.

Tunbridge Wells at Pembury Hospital is the Trust ‘Hot site’ and runs both an elective and emergency service. It comprises of 11 theatres covering a wide range of specialties: ENT, Gynaecology, Upper and Lower GI, Bariatrics, Paediatric Orthopaedics and Ophthalmics, as well as CEPOD, Trauma and Obstetrics.

Detailed job description and main responsibilities

All successful applicants will be required to complete our corporate trust induction once a start date has been agreed.

Following your Corporate Induction, you will attend the Trust’s Clinical Induction Programme for Clinical Support Workers, which starts on the first day of employment. The programme is full-time, lasts for two weeks, and involves travelling to both Trust sites. It includes 2 supernumerary shifts in the clinical area (an early and a late shift), with the other days being classroom-based from 9am to 5pm.

Person specification

Qualifications

  • NVQ Level 3 in Healthcare support or equivalent experience.
  • Care Certificate.
  • Functional English and Maths Level 2 or GCSE English and Maths A-C Grade.

  • Ability to understand and communicate factual information accurately.
  • Good interpersonal skills.
  • Basic ICT skills.
  • Effective organisational skills.

Experience

  • Minimum of 18 months full-time equivalent experience as a Theatre Support Worker/Trainee.
  • Experience working in healthcare settings.
