Offshore Renewable Energy Catapult is recruiting a Senior Test Engineer (Drivetrain – Electrical) based at our Blyth office, to lead testing of renewable energy electrical projects at ORE Catapult Blyth, including project design, delivery, and reporting.
What will I do?
- Carry out testing on renewable energy electrical projects at ORE Catapult Blyth;
- Develop and execute comprehensive project plans in coordination with Business Unit Chief Engineers, ensuring alignment with operational, financial, and strategic objectives;
- Oversee, direct, and guide test engineers and technicians in supporting and delivering complex testing projects;
- Support the Drivetrain Test Manager in developing technical solutions for commercial proposals;
- Support facility development to meet IEC and industrial standards;
- Improve the operability and utilization of drivetrain and eGrid facilities and services;
- Communicate effectively internally and externally with customers and suppliers;
- Work closely with electrical design, instrumentation, and control teams to design and install electrical test projects;
- Support the development of new testing capabilities to meet future renewable energy sector needs;
- Simulate and optimize testing facilities and programs before physical testing;
- Ensure all test equipment is fit for purpose and available before testing begins;
- Support the development of procedures and best practices;
- Ensure effective team performance and project delivery through proactive support;
- Guide the development of other engineers in the Drivetrain team;
- Ensure all projects adhere to SHEQ legislation and ORE Catapult standards.
What are we looking for?
- Relevant electrical engineering degree, preferably at Masters level;
- 5+ years post-degree industry experience;
- Proven competence in project delivery and business development;
- Knowledge in testing principles, failure modes, engineering design, instrumentation, control systems, manufacturing, operation, and offshore renewable infrastructure;
- Ability to manage customer expectations;
- Extensive experience with power electronics, machines, and drives;
- Ability to organize and perform diagnostic work on test equipment;
- Proficiency in MATLAB or similar platforms;
- Experience with simulation tools like Simulink, PLECS, and PSIM;
- Familiarity with electrical measurement calibration;
- Strong communication skills for technical reporting and presentations;
- Data analysis and reporting skills;
- Knowledge of ISO 9001 and ISO/IEC 17025 standards;
- Team player with good time management skills.
