Job summary

Penguin Recruitment Ltd is currently seeking a highly experienced Principal Temporary Works Engineer to join a leading UK engineering consultancy in Bristol. The role focuses on design-led temporary works solutions and senior technical leadership across diverse construction projects.

You will produce and review technical calculations and drawings, mentor junior engineers and ensure compliance with BS5975 and UK practices while delivering safe, practical outcomes for clients.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering required.
• Strong experience in temporary works design.
• Detailed knowledge of BS5975 and UK construction practices.
• Excellent AutoCAD skills and ability to interpret drawings.
• Ability to produce and review technical calculations and drawings.
• Chartered status or clear pathway towards ICE/IStructE.

Responsibilities

• Design and deliver temporary works projects with senior technical ownership.
• Produce and review calculations, drawings and technical reports.
• Attend site visits and surveys to support project delivery.
• Provide technical support throughout the project lifecycle.
• Mentor and lead junior engineers on project teams.
