Job summary

CBSbutler Holdings Limited trading as CBSbutler is seeking a Senior Technical Architect - Cloud & Microservices for a major technology programme. The role sits at architectural level but remains hands-on when required, operating in a hybrid model with 2 days a week on site in Telford.

The architect will define robust, scalable software solutions, drive architectural decisions and collaborate with developers and stakeholders in an Agile delivery context.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• You’ll be the key contact for technical/software architecture, making design decisions.
• Define and design software solutions focusing on stability and performance.
• Develop architectural views and interaction between components.
• Ensure alignment with long-term technical strategy and architecture.
• Support solutions through construction and collaborate with development teams.
• Provide technical direction to architects, developers and managers.
• Champion architectural standards and maintain documentation.
• Help build and develop an effective software engineering team.

Senior Technical Architect - Cloud & Microservices

£620 per day inside ir35

6 months rolling

Hybrid/Telford (2 times a week on site)

Candidates must be willing and eligible to go through BPSS clearance for the role

I'm looking for a Senior Technical Architect - Cloud & Microservices to join a major technology programme, working at the heart of the architecture and design function.

This is a role for someone who can operate at architectural level but isn't afraid to get hands‑on when required.

Responsibilities

• You’ll act as the key point of contact for technical and software architecture, making critical design decisions and ensuring solutions are robust, scalable and built for the long term.
• Defining and designing software solutions with a focus on stability, scalability, maintainability and performance
• Developing architectural views and defining how software components interact
• Ensuring solutions align with the longer‑term technical strategy and wider architecture
• Supporting solutions throughout construction and working closely with development teams
• Providing technical direction and guidance to architects, developers and managers
• Championing architectural standards and ensuring teams adhere to agreed designs
• Maintaining key architectural documentation and communicating changes effectively
• Helping build and develop an effective software engineering team
• Working within Agile environments and contributing throughout the delivery lifecycle

You should have strong communication skills and be able to explain complex technical concepts clearly, influence engineering teams and work effectively with both technical and non‑technical stakeholders.

Most importantly, you’ll bring curiosity, creativity and a willingness to get into the detail rather than simply producing architecture from a distance.
