Job summary

Archangel Lightworks, a Oxford-based laser communications company, seeks a Senior Systems Engineer to define requirements, architect solutions, and lead verification for Optical Ground Stations and related products.

You will collaborate across internal teams and external partners, drive MBSE adoption, and mentor junior engineers while ensuring timely delivery and robust system integration. Flexible work arrangements may be available in alignment with project needs.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Systems Engineering, Aerospace engineering or related field.
5+ years of experience in systems engineering of complex communications, electro-optical, electro-mechanical or embedded software systems.
Hands-on, able to operate the system to run tests and demos.
Understanding of systems engineering standards and processes (MBSE, SysML) and tool support (e.g. Enterprise Architect).
Experience across full engineering lifecycle from requirements to production.

Responsibilities

Own systems or subsystems, leading specification, verification, and acting as primary technical contact for external partners.
Identify and address risks and issues within the allocated systems.
Drive communications within product teams, producing accurate requirements, designs, models and documents.
Plan and conduct verification, qualification and operational demonstrations per standards including interoperability.
Develop, maintain and review system documentation and models, including ICDs and budgets.
Lead sprint planning and Agile workflows, coordinating subsystem developments and supplier management.
