Job summary

Rise Technical Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer based in Basingstoke, Hampshire. The role focuses on 4th line support across Linux, Java and high-availability infrastructure with on-call duties and a salary between 75,000 and 85,000 GBP depending on experience.

You will troubleshoot complex incidents, analyze logs, and work with R&D, software and IT teams to improve monitoring, automation and fault tolerance in a 24/7 environment.

Responsibilities

• Provide 4th line technical support across smart metering head-end systems and radio access network infrastructure, troubleshooting complex functional and performance issues.
• Analyse system data, logs and performance information to identify root cause, resolve incidents and upscale software/firmware defects where required.
• Develop and implement improvements across monitoring, diagnostics, troubleshooting, automation and self-healing, including the development of support tools.
• Work closely with R&D, Software, Hardware, Firmware and IT teams on system design, code reviews, change requests, releases and continual service improvement.
• Act as a technical SME, maintaining detailed defect records, knowledge documentation and supporting the delivery of high-availability, fault-tolerant systems operating in a 24/7 environment.

Are you a Senior Systems Engineer with strong experience across Linux, Java, SQL and high-availability infrastructure?

The Role

• Technical Environment: Java Linux VMware SQL MS SQL Server PostgreSQL Bash Python IP Networking DNS Distributed Systems Performance Monitoring Troubleshooting Debugging ITIL Configuration Management
• Provide 4th line technical support across smart metering head-end systems and radio access network infrastructure, troubleshooting complex functional and performance issues.

The Person

• SC Clearance: Active SC Clearance or eligibility to obtain SC Clearance required.
• Experienced Senior Systems Engineer / Systems Engineer / Infrastructure Engineer with strong troubleshooting, debugging and root-cause analysis capability.
• Experience with Redis/NoSQL, Apache ActiveMQ, server load balancing, F5/Alteon/Cisco ACE, RHCSA/RHCT, VCP or CCNA would be advantageous.
• Strong technical knowledge of Linux, VMware, SQL and IP networking, with scripting experience using Bash and/or Python.
• Strong object-oriented programming, coding and debugging skills; Java strongly preferred, alongside experience with SQL Server/PostgreSQL, stored procedures and complex systems.
• Experience supporting high-performance, high-availability, distributed or mission-critical systems, ideally within a secure or 24/7 environment.
• Strong customer-facing and stakeholder management skills, with a proactive approach to problem solving, ownership and continual improvement.
