Job summary

Leonardo UK operates a grade-based salary framework with a salary range of £78,000–£95,000 for the Project Chief Engineer (Systems Design Authority) within the Sensors business sector. The role involves technical leadership across electro‑optic systems and precision guidance products in a defence context.

You will support project teams, provide governance and oversee Design Integrity, ensuring safety, security and regulatory compliance while driving continuous improvement and value for customers.

Qualifications

• Strong background in development of complex products.
• Experience with requirements, test qualification and acceptance strategies.
• Experience in gaining design certification and customer acceptance.
• Ability to produce innovative technical and system solutions within agreed budgets and timescales.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, interacting with SMEs and End Users of various nationalities.

Responsibilities

• Own the technical solution for all phases of the solution development, representing Leonardo with external stakeholders.
• Keep up to date on related processes and requirements as part of the product integrity delivery team.
• Work closely with development teams and supply chain to meet End Users' needs.
• Ensure compliance with performance, legislative and contractual requirements with traceable evidence.
• Lead and chair design reviews for products, systems and services to ensure technical soundness and lifecycle compliance.
• Provide technical direction, control, evaluation and risk/opportunity assessments.
