Job description

TERM TIME ONLY - 39 weeks per year.

Cambian Wing College

Wing College is a specialist further education college offering both day and 38-52-week residential placements. We provide holistic education for students aged 16-25 years with Autistic Spectrum Disorder and associated mental health conditions. We use specialist education approaches, therapeutic support, and staffing expertise to prepare students for adult life.

Through innovative educational experiences and supported by passionate teams, we enable each young person to achieve their personal best in an environment suited to them.

Purpose and Summary of the Job

To work primarily in the residential area, providing guidance, support, and encouragement to young people in various settings including classrooms, education, and off-site activities. The role involves supporting their physical and emotional development, working as part of a team to maintain a safe, happy, and caring environment prioritizing the health, safety, and welfare of our young people. The role also requires being a good role model and conducting oneself professionally at all times, including outside events. Mentoring Support Workers is also part of this role.

Main Duties and Responsibilities

1. Build positive professional relationships with young people and staff across the organization, engaging appropriately.
2. Maintain a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment, including domestic duties.
3. Promote and meet the specific needs of young people following relevant policies and procedures.
4. Assist with medical and welfare needs, report issues, and participate in medical audits as required.
5. Support young people in maintaining personal hygiene and appearance, including intimate care when trained.

Person Specification

1. Minimum of 1 year's recent experience working with young people with special needs/disabilities.
2. Knowledge of health, safety, and welfare of young people.
3. Understanding of how young people learn and develop.
4. Ability to participate in and possibly lead indoor and outdoor activities.
5. Clear and effective communication skills with young people and others.
6. Ability to understand young people's needs and work independently.
7. Ability to lead an effective shift.
