Job Role: Support Worker
This role primarily involves working in residential settings to provide guidance, support, and encouragement to young people across various environments including classrooms, education, and off-site activities. The job focuses on enabling young people's development through physical and emotional support.
Key responsibilities include:
- Building positive, professional relationships with young people and staff, and disengaging appropriately.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and enjoyable environment, including domestic duties.
- Promoting and meeting the specific needs of young people following policies and procedures.
- Assisting with medical and welfare needs, reporting, and record-keeping, including monitoring health conditions.
- Supporting personal hygiene and, when trained, providing intimate or invasive care.
- Participating in communication systems, meetings, and acting as a Keyworker or Personal Tutor.
- Supporting behavior management using approved approaches.
- Upholding equality, safeguarding against abuse, and challenging discrimination.
- Completing reports, maintaining records, and contributing to service development or projects.
- Attending training and achieving relevant qualifications.
- Participating in learning activities during residential, leisure, or classroom settings.
- Working reliably, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, Bank Holidays, and overtime if needed.
- Supporting transition processes for young people moving between settings.
- Keeping up-to-date with policies and disseminating information to team members.
- If qualified, driving the minibus and ensuring safety.
- Ensuring health and safety standards are met, understanding hazards, and contributing to a secure environment.
- Performing additional relevant duties as assigned.
- Understanding standards and their implementation in care settings.
- Participating in review meetings, advocating for young people, and planning activities.
- Leading shifts, debriefing, and providing feedback for team improvement.
- Promptly reporting matters affecting young people's well-being.
- Leading shifts and conducting debriefs as required.
Person Specification
Applicants should demonstrate:
- Effective debriefing skills.
- Qualification: Level 3 RQF certificate in Health and Social Care or equivalent.
- Ability to supervise Support Workers and work within a multidisciplinary team including a Registered Manager, Team Manager, and Assistant Team Manager.
