Job summary

BRE, based in Watford, is seeking a Lead Structural Engineer to provide technical leadership in structural engineering, testing and assurance services driving growth and industry impact.

You will apply advanced structural engineering principles, fire design to BS EN standards, and coordinate multidisciplinary teams to deliver high-quality outcomes while upholding BRE's integrity and independence.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Engineering is mandatory.
• Proven capability to lead and manage complex structural engineering activities.
• Strong knowledge of BS and EN codes and standards and their application.
• Understanding of static and dynamic structural behaviour.
• Experience coordinating multidisciplinary teams including engineers and laboratory staff.
• Ability to develop and review high-quality proposals, reports and inspection documents.
• Experience contributing to business development, client engagement and external representation.

Responsibilities

• Lead and manage the Structural Technology team to meet objectives and growth.
• Provide technical leadership across projects including testing, assessment, inspection and consultancy.
• Drive business development and market growth through new opportunities and relationships.
• Build strong relationships with clients, regulators and stakeholders and uphold independence and integrity.
• Represent BRE externally at events and conferences to develop partnerships.
• Lead client engagements, understand customer requirements, and prepare technical proposals.
• Apply advanced structural engineering knowledge to develop test programmes and assess performance.
• Utilise expertise in structural design and fire design to BS EN standards for diverse projects.
• Foster collaboration across teams to ensure efficient delivery and knowledge sharing.
• Ensure all lab and site activities meet quality and safety standards.
• Mentor and develop team capability toward technical excellence.
