Job summary

Thornton Tomasetti is seeking a Senior Structural Project Engineer to join its Protective Design & Security practice in high-security environments. You will apply core structural engineering skills to traditional building projects while developing specialist expertise in blast and protective design.

You will deliver small to medium-scale projects, lead teams, and coordinate input from architecture, MEP, and other specialists, while supporting larger projects and mentoring junior staff.

Qualifications

• Degree in Civil or Structural Engineering.
• Chartered or working towards chartership with a professional body (e.g. ICE, IStructE).
• Experience delivering structural engineering for buildings, ideally including security/defence exposure.
• Experience coordinating with other design disciplines on multidisciplinary projects.

Responsibilities

• Deliver structural designs for buildings from concept through to construction.
• Lead and manage small to medium-scale projects, including planning, resourcing, programme and quality control.
• Coordinate input from architecture, MEP, civil, and other discipline consultants for integrated designs.
• Attend client, design team and coordination meetings; present and explain structural design solutions to technical and non-technical stakeholders.
• Support development of protective design and blast engineering solutions.
• Mentor junior team members and foster knowledge-sharing within the practice.
