Marine Resources Recruitment Ltd is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer – FEA Specialist for our Fareham client. You will deliver structural calculations and FEA for marine structures, develop and assess FEA models, and validate analysis through hand calculations and standards.

You will work across composite and metallic structures, support production, and mentor junior engineers while collaborating with Naval Architecture, Design and Systems teams.

Qualifications

• Proven experience in structural engineering and FEA.
• Experience with composite and/or metallic structures.
• Strong understanding of structural behaviour and failure mechanisms.
• Ability to undertake independent engineering calculations.
• Knowledge of relevant standards and regulations.

Senior Structural Engineer – FEA Specialist

Location: Fareham

Salary: c£55,000 – £65,000

Job Type: Permanent

A leading marine engineering business is looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer – FEA Specialist to join its engineering team in Fareham.

This is a senior technical role combining FEA, structural design, engineering calculations and practical problem-solving, with involvement across concept, detailed design and production. You will work across composite and metallic structures, supporting structural integrity, compliance, weight and manufacturability.

The Opportunity

The role will involve:

• Delivering structural calculations and FEA for composite and metallic marine structures
• Developing and assessing FEA models, including loading, meshing and boundary conditions
• Validating analysis through hand calculations, engineering judgement and relevant standards
• Supporting structural design, optimisation, weight reduction and feasibility studies
• Providing technical support during production and resolving structural build issues
• Working with Naval Architecture, Design and Systems teams
• Reviewing technical work and mentoring junior engineers

About You

You will have proven experience in structural engineering and FEA, ideally within marine, maritime or another highly engineered environment.

You should have:

• Strong practical FEA and structural analysis experience
• Experience with composite and/or metallic structures
• Good understanding of structural behaviour, load paths and failure mechanisms
• Ability to undertake independent engineering calculations
• Knowledge of relevant standards, regulations or classification requirements
• Understanding of composite manufacturing processes and their impact on design
• Experience supporting manufacturing or production teams
• Strong technical communication and engineering judgement

Desirable Experience

• Siemens NX, Simcenter or equivalent FEA software
• Composite laminate analysis and structural design
• Composite manufacturing techniques including infusion, prepreg, RTM or hand lay-up
• Structural optimisation and weight reduction
• Engineering change and configuration control
• Mentoring or supervising junior engineers
• Marine or maritime engineering experience
