Calibre Search is seeking a Senior Structural Engineer in Nottingham for a hybrid role. You will own a portfolio of projects, lead the design team, and drive from concept to site, balancing client needs, fees and programme.

You'll work with steel, concrete, timber and masonry on schemes from small to £15m+, mentor graduates, and participate in client meetings. Chartered status is encouraged, with IStructE/ICE pathways supported by senior engineers.

Qualifications

• Around 4–5+ years of Structural Engineering experience.
• Experience designing building structures across different materials.
• Ability to take ownership of projects and lead teams.
• Familiar with Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds and Robot Structural Analysis.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects and coordinate with the wider design team.

Senior Structural Engineer, Nottingham - Hybrid Working

Want to get to the point where a project feels like yours, rather than just being the Engineer doing the calculations? That's really what this opportunity is about.

I'm recruiting for a growing engineering consultancy in Nottingham that wants to add an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to its team. You'll be trusted with your own portfolio of projects and given the freedom to take them from the first conversations and concept designs, through detailed design and ultimately onto site.

And there's plenty of variety.

One month you could be working on an education or healthcare scheme, the next it could be residential, industrial, commercial, retail or leisure. There's a good balance of new-build and refurbishment work too, with projects ranging from smaller schemes through to developments worth £15m+.

This isn't a role where Senior simply means producing more calculations, you'll be the Structural Lead on your projects, coordinating with the wider design team, briefing technicians, attending client meetings and keeping an eye on programme, fees and technical delivery. You'll still be designing, of course.

Expect plenty of work with steel, concrete, timber and masonry, developing concepts, producing and checking calculations and reviewing drawings before they go out. Software-wise, they use Tekla Structural Designer, Tekla Tedds and Robot Structural Analysis, with IdeaStatica experience useful but certainly not a deal breaker.

You’ll also get out of the office for inspections and site visits rather than spending every day staring at a model.

As you become established, you'll have more involvement with clients, fee proposals, project finances and winning repeat work, alongside mentoring the graduates and junior Engineers coming through the team.

Chartered already? Great. Still working towards it? That's absolutely fine too. Ideally you’ll be progressing through IStructE, although ICE is also considered, and you’ll have experienced Chartered Engineers and Directors around you to help with the remaining journey.

The team itself is deliberately mixed in terms of experience, from apprentices and graduates through to established Engineers and senior people. It's a fairly open setup where you're encouraged to ask questions, challenge things and put ideas forward, rather than waiting for somebody with a more senior title to make every decision.
