About the Role
We are looking for an experienced Senior Structural Engineer to join a friendly and growing consultancy in the East Midlands. As a small to medium-sized practice, they work across a wide range of projects including residential extensions, structural alterations, historic buildings, and small to medium-scale developments.
This role would suit a well-rounded engineer who enjoys working closely with clients, taking ownership of projects, and being involved in both design and structural surveys.
Key Responsibilities of this Senior Structural Engineer role
- Lead and manage a variety of structural engineering projects from concept through to completion.
- Design structural solutions using materials including masonry, steel, and timber.
- Deliver designs for residential and domestic projects, including extensions, loft conversions, and structural alterations such as steel beam installations.
- Carry out structural inspections and site surveys.
- Prepare clear structural reports and technical assessments for clients, architects, and contractors.
- Work closely with homeowners, architects, and builders to develop practical and cost-effective solutions.
- Provide technical guidance to junior engineers where required.
Requirements for this Senior Structural Engineer role
- Degree in Structural or Civil Engineering (or related discipline).
- Several years' experience working in a UK-based structural engineering consultancy.
- Strong experience with residential and domestic projects including extensions and structural alterations.
- Knowledge and practical design experience using masonry, steel, and timber.
- Experience carrying out structural surveys and producing professional reports.
- Good working knowledge of relevant UK building regulations and design standards.
- Strong communication skills and the ability to work directly with clients.
Desirable
- Progressing toward or already Chartered Engineer (IStructE or ICE) status.
- Experience working with historic or older buildings.
- Familiarity with common structural design software used in consultancy environments.
