About Us

Ayesa Engineering is a global engineering consultancy with over 13,000 employees, where our UK & Ireland business combines international strength with the agility and autonomy of an SME.

With a presence in 40 countries, Ayesa Engineering has built a strong international reputation across a diverse range of engineering disciplines. Our expertise includes water and flood infrastructure, transportation, marine and coastal engineering, geoscience, environmental services, energy, and building structures.

Our UK & Ireland teams deliver technically challenging, varied projects that develop broad expertise without confining people to narrow roles, offering the opportunity to make a meaningful local impact while benefiting from the stability, knowledge, and career opportunities of a well-established global organisation.

As a Senior Structural Design Engineer, you will:
  • Take technical responsibility for the delivery of structural design solutions across a range of rail, bridge and infrastructure projects.
  • Lead and contribute to the preparation of structural calculations, detailed designs, drawings, specifications and technical reports.
  • Apply sound engineering judgement to develop practical, cost-effective and technically robust design solutions.
  • Work independently on technically challenging projects while providing technical guidance and support to less experienced engineers.
  • Undertake design reviews and checking activities to ensure technical quality, compliance and accuracy.
  • Coordinate structural design activities with other disciplines, including civil, geotechnical, environmental and project management teams.
  • Liaise directly with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders, providing technical advice and contributing to project discussions and meetings.
  • Support Technical Leads with the planning, delivery and management of structural engineering commissions.
  • Identify technical risks, design constraints and opportunities and contribute to the development of appropriate engineering solutions.
  • Support the preparation of fee proposals, scopes of work and technical submissions where required.
  • Maintain awareness of project budgets, programmes and deliverables to support successful project delivery.
  • Monitor processes and outputs to ensure compliance with relevant safety, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement within the Rail & Bridges team and support the development of engineering standards and best practice.
  • Manage projects in compliance with Ayesa Engineering's Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Represent and promote Ayesa in a professional manner and develop effective working relationships with clients and potential clients.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 5-8+ years' experience in structural design engineering.
  • Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE), Institution of Civil Engineers (ICE), or actively working towards Chartership.
  • Demonstrable experience delivering structural design projects from concept through to detailed design and construction.
  • Experience working within multidisciplinary engineering teams and coordinating structural design with other technical disciplines.
  • Strong experience in delivering structural engineering solutions, calculations, drawings, specifications and technical reports for complex engineering projects.
  • Strong understanding of structural behaviour and the application of engineering principles to complex design challenges.
  • Detailed knowledge and practical application of current British Standards, Eurocodes and other relevant design standards.
  • Experience in the design and assessment of bridges, rail infrastructure and other civil engineering structures.
  • Experience in the design and assessment of reinforced concrete, steel and other structural materials.
  • Ability to independently develop technically robust and commercially viable engineering solutions.
  • Experience reviewing and checking structural calculations, drawings and technical documentation.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders and build positive working relationships.
  • Experience supporting, mentoring and developing graduate and junior engineers.
  • Good understanding of project delivery, programme, budget and commercial considerations.
  • Commitment to Continued Professional Development and ongoing technical development.

You do not need to have experience in every area listed above. We are looking for engineers with strong technical foundations, sound engineering judgement and a proactive approach to delivering high-quality engineering solutions while supporting the development of others within a collaborative engineering environment.

This role attracts the following benefits package:
  • Structured support towards Chartership
