Why Join Our Rail & Bridges Team?

This is an opportunity to develop your career within a specialist Rail & Bridges team, working on a wide variety of rail, bridges and civil infrastructure projects across the UK.

You will work on technically challenging projects involving the assessment, design and delivery of rail and bridge structures, contributing throughout the project lifecycle from feasibility and concept development through to detailed design and construction support.

The role offers the opportunity to work alongside experienced engineers and technical specialists, developing your skills in structural analysis, design, assessment and project delivery while gaining exposure to major infrastructure projects. You will collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, clients, contractors and stakeholders, providing valuable experience in the development and delivery of engineering solutions within complex environments.

We are committed to supporting professional development through technical training, professional membership and structured support towards Chartership.

Position
As a Structural Design Engineer, you will:
  • Work as a member of a project team to deliver high-quality civil and structural engineering services to clients.
  • Undertake the design, assessment and analysis of rail, bridge and associated infrastructure.
  • Produce engineering calculations, technical reports, specifications and design deliverables.
  • Develop detailed design solutions in accordance with relevant standards, specifications and client requirements.
  • Support the preparation and review of drawings and technical documentation.
  • Liaise with internal multidisciplinary teams, including civil, geotechnical and other engineering disciplines.
  • Attend site inspections, surveys and construction activities where required to support project delivery.
  • Work collaboratively with clients, contractors and other project stakeholders.
  • Assist in the planning and delivery of projects to programme, budget and quality requirements.
  • Monitor processes and outputs to ensure compliance with relevant safety, legal, ethical and regulatory requirements.
  • Exercise sound engineering judgement and initiative when developing technical solutions.
  • Contribute to the continuous improvement of engineering delivery and technical excellence within the team.
  • Manage projects in compliance with Ayesa Engineering's Integrated Management System (IMS).
  • Represent and promote Ayesa in a professional manner and develop effective working relationships with clients and potential clients.
Requirements
  • Degree qualified in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering or a related discipline.
  • Typically 2-5 years' experience in structural design engineering.
  • Working towards Chartered Engineer status with the Institution of Structural Engineers, Institution of Civil Engineers, or another relevant professional body.
  • Experience in structural analysis, design and assessment of civil engineering, bridge or other infrastructure.
  • Good understanding of structural behaviour and engineering fundamentals.
  • Knowledge of relevant British Standards, Eurocodes and industry design standards.
  • Experience producing engineering calculations, reports, drawings and technical specifications.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, colleagues and project stakeholders and build positive working relationships.
  • Experience of working within multidisciplinary project teams.
  • Good report writing, communication and presentation skills.
  • Ability to manage workload effectively and deliver work to agreed deadlines.
  • Familiarity with structural engineering software and design tools.
  • Experience of rail infrastructure projects would be desirable but is not essential.
  • Commitment to Continued Professional Development and ongoing technical development.
