Job summary

WSP is seeking a Technical Director to lead structural engineering for major energy infrastructure projects in the UK, including substations and Transmission & Distribution networks. You will guide project teams, manage client relationships, and drive technical excellence across the portfolio.

The role emphasizes leadership, strategic planning, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams, with hybrid and flexible working arrangements offered.

Qualifications

• Chartered Engineer (CEng) with a relevant professional body.
• Significant experience in structural engineering design and project leadership.
• Experience in substations, Transmission and Distribution infrastructure, OHL projects, power stations, or petrochemical facilities.
• Proven ability to manage complex projects and lead multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong commercial awareness and client-facing skills.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement capabilities.

Responsibilities

• Lead and oversee the structural design and delivery of energy infrastructure projects.
• Provide strategic input into project planning, resourcing, and risk management.
• Deliver structural solutions for substations, transmission and distribution facilities, OHL structures, and power stations.
• Build and maintain strong client relationships, acting as a trusted advisor.
• Mentor and develop junior engineers and technicians, fostering technical excellence.
• Contribute to bids, proposals, and client presentations.
• Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to deliver integrated design solutions.
• Support development of best practices, innovation and continuous improvement.
