Job summary

Collins Aerospace in Wolverhampton, UK, is seeking a Senior Stress Engineer to support the ASG electric thrust reverser actuation centre of excellence. The role focuses on structural analysis across design, development and production of electric actuation systems and subsystems.

You will perform preliminary and detailed stress analyses, employ FEA methods, investigate failures, and prepare technical reports.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in stress analysis, including classical methods.

  • Perform preliminary and detailed structural analysis for electric actuation and subsystems throughout the product life cycle.
  • Use classical and computational methods to analyze gears, splines, threads, lead/ball screws, and bearings.
  • Generate technical reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing new capabilities to support technology roadmaps.
  • Investigate failure events and conduct corrective action analyses.
  • Collaborate with a multi‑functional team across design, integration, test, and production phases.
  • Support the wider local and global Stress Analysis team and share best practices.

Job description

Overview

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Stress Engineer for its ASG electric thrust reverser actuation centre of excellence. The role is based in a new facility in Wolverhampton, United Kingdom, and reports to the ASG-UK Site Lead – Chief Engineer. The engineer will conduct structural analysis to support the design, development, and production of electric actuation systems and associated subsystems.

Responsibilities
  • Perform preliminary and detailed structural analysis for electric actuation and subsystems throughout the product life cycle.
  • Use classical and computational methods to analyze mechanical elements such as gears, splines, threads, lead/ball screws, and bearings.
  • Generate technical reports and summaries for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Assist in developing new capabilities to support technology roadmaps.
  • Investigate failure events and conduct corrective action analyses.
  • Collaborate with a multi‑functional team across design, integration, test, and production phases.
  • Support the wider local and global Stress Analysis team and share best practices.
Qualifications
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Proven experience in stress analysis, including classical methods (Shigley, Peterson, Bruhn, etc.).
  • Strong knowledge of structural FEA: linear analysis, non‑linear material analysis, contact/assembly modeling, and margin of safety calculations.
  • Problem‑solving skills in complex structural analysis environments.
  • Experience supporting failure investigations.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills for diverse audiences.
  • Passion for structural analysis, self‑development, and teamwork.
Desirable Experience
  • Familiarity with ANSYS, MathCAD, and CATIA.
