Job summary

Collins Aerospace is seeking a Senior Design Engineer to lead the design and development of electric actuation systems for aerospace nacelles at our Wolverhampton facility. You will oversee concept through production, deliver robust, lightweight solutions, and provide technical guidance to junior engineers.

The role requires a mechanical engineering degree, CATIA and Teamcenter experience, and strong communication within multidisciplinary teams.

Qualifications

  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
  • Experience in a design engineering environment.
  • Strong understanding of machine design and electro-mechanical product development.
  • Experience across the product lifecycle.
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical abilities.
  • Experience with CATIA CAD software.
  • Experience with Teamcenter PLM systems.
  • Experience with qualification and certification programmes.
  • Knowledge of aerospace actuation systems and aircraft equipment design.
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to work in multidisciplinary teams.

Job description

Collins Aerospace is a global leader in technologically advanced and intelligent solutions for the aerospace and defence industry.

This is an exciting new role within Collins and a unique opportunity to be part the ASG electric thrust reverser actuation centre of excellence, working as part of a team of technical innovators in the development of new technologies to position the business for success on next generation of aerospace nacelle electric actuation. The position will be located within a new bespoke facility in Wolverhampton.

Reporting to the ASG-UK Site Lead – Chief Engineer, you will be working as part of a team of technical innovators will provide technical leadership and design authority for the development of electric actuation systems and associated subsystems, supporting programmes from concept through to production and in-service support.

What You Will Do

As a Senior Design Engineer, you will be responsible for the design and development of electric actuation systems and associated subsystems, supporting projects from concept through to manufacture and qualification.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Generating innovative design concepts and product configurations for electro-mechanical actuation systems
  • Supporting all stages of the design lifecycle, from requirements capture and proposals through detailed design, manufacture, and qualification
  • Developing robust, lightweight, and cost-effective engineering solutions
  • Producing high-quality manufacturing data packages, including drawings and tolerance analyses
  • Leading and supporting detailed design activities within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Ensuring compliance with customer, regulatory, and in-service requirements
  • Supporting system integration and installation activities across actuation systems and interfacing equipment
  • Conducting design reviews and delivering technical presentations to internal and external stakeholders
  • Supporting risk identification, risk mitigation, and design assurance activities
  • Investigating product issues during development, qualification, production, and in-service operation
  • Supporting failure investigations and corrective action programmes
  • Providing technical guidance and mentoring to junior engineers, graduates, and placement students
  • Supporting technology roadmap development and future capability growth initiatives
  • Collaborating with global engineering teams to share best practices and drive continuous improvement
  • Supporting customer engagement activities and new business opportunities
What You Must Have
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent engineering qualification
  • Demonstrated experience in a design engineering environment
  • Strong understanding of machine design and electro-mechanical product development
  • Experience developing mechanical or electro-mechanical systems throughout the product lifecycle
  • Proven problem-solving and analytical skills
  • Experience supporting technical investigations and root cause analysis activities
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary engineering teams
  • Strong organisational and planning skills with attention to detail
  • Passion for engineering excellence, innovation, and continuous development
  • Experience using CATIA CAD software
  • Experience using Teamcenter PLM systems
  • Experience supporting qualification and certification programmes
  • Knowledge of aerospace actuation systems and aircraft equipment design
