Job summary

A leading company in residential development is seeking a Senior Strategic Planning Manager to oversee the planning of large-scale residential schemes. This role involves managing sites from acquisition through to planning consent and supporting the business in evaluating new opportunities. The ideal candidate will have a relevant qualification and experience in promoting strategic land through the planning system, alongside strong project management and stakeholder management skills.

Qualifications

• Degree/HND/NVQ Level 6 or equivalent in Planning or related field.
• Experience promoting strategic land through the planning system.
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary teams.

Recruitment Consultant specialising in Residential Development

A private housebuilder with a long-term strategic land programme is seeking a Senior Strategic Planning Manager to support the delivery of its land-led development pipeline. This role involves overseeing the planning of large-scale residential schemes. The successful candidate will manage sites from acquisition through to planning consent and support the business in evaluating and progressing new opportunities.

Key Responsibilities

• Lead planning promotion and project management of strategic land sites
• Oversee planning strategy, programme delivery, risk, and due diligence
• Manage consultant teams and key external relationships (landowners, local authorities, planning consultants)
• Support identification and acquisition of new land opportunities
• Manage budgets, viability assessments, and financial appraisals
• Coordinate internal handover of consented sites for development
• Oversee health & safety on pre-development sites

Requirements

• Relevant qualification in Planning, Land Management, or related field (Degree/HND/NVQ Level 6 or equivalent)
• Ability to lead multidisciplinary consultant teams and manage multiple concurrent projects
• Demonstrable experience promoting strategic land through the planning system to consent
• Financial literacy including viability reporting and budget control
• Strong working knowledge of planning law, site promotion strategies, and legal agreements
• Confident stakeholder manager with clear written and verbal communication skills
• Experience working for a land promoter or housebuilder is preferable
