Job overview

We are looking for a Band 6 Paediatric Nurse with expertise, experience, and passion to develop the service alongside renowned clinicians and the senior nursing team.

Our paediatric haematology day unit at St Mary’s Hospital specializes in caring for children with haemoglobinopathies, oncological conditions, red cell disorders, and bone marrow failure syndromes. Children post bone marrow transplant and gene therapy attend for follow-up and ongoing care.

We offer comprehensive management for children with sickle cell disease and thalassaemia, including a dedicated teenage and young adult transition service. We are the specialist Haemoglobinopathy centre in the Paediatric Imperial Red Cell Network, providing tertiary and outreach services across North West London.

Main duties of the job

  • Ensure appropriate referral and discussion with the multidisciplinary team to optimize patient care.
  • Assess patients, develop, implement, and evaluate care plans according to Trust policies.
  • Maintain open communication channels, support the ward team, encourage ideas, and address issues proactively.
  • Act as a clinical expert within your sphere of work.
  • Provide visible leadership and line management for nursing and support staff.
  • Ensure staffing levels comply with Trust policies.
  • Maintain safety and cleanliness of the clinical environment.
  • Promote a culture of learning and quality improvement.

Education

  • RSCN/RN (child)
  • Experience supervising junior staff or mentorship in practice
