Job summary

Fairlie Healthcare is seeking an experienced Senior Staff Nurse to provide high-quality, resident-focused nursing care in a specialist neurological setting. You will lead a multidisciplinary team, supervise junior colleagues, and contribute to clinical governance and service development.

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will play an important role in delivering safe, compassionate and evidence-based nursing care while supporting our Residents to achieve the best possible quality of life.

About the role

As a Senior Staff Nurse, you will provide high-quality, evidence-based and Resident-focused nursing care. You will work closely with the wider multidisciplinary team (MDT), providing clinical leadership and supporting colleagues to maintain excellent standards of care.

You will also have the opportunity to develop your specialist knowledge and take on a Link Nurse role in an area such as Infection Prevention and Control, Tissue Viability, PEG Management or Continence, depending on your experience and the needs of the service.

Your key responsibilities will include:

  • Delivering safe, compassionate and evidence-based nursing care to our Residents.
  • Maintaining high standards of clinical care and ensuring that Residents’ individual needs are met.
  • Maintaining your knowledge and competence in tracheostomy and ventilator care and management.
  • Recognising clinical concerns and red flags, taking appropriate action and escalating to external healthcare professionals when required.
  • Working effectively with the MDT to ensure coordinated and person-centred care.
  • Providing clinical support, guidance and advice to junior members of the nursing team.
  • Taking a leadership role within the team and using your initiative when required.
  • Keeping the Sister/Charge Nurse informed of significant changes in a Resident’s condition or any anticipated concerns.
  • Supporting Residents, relatives, carers and friends and involving them appropriately in the care process.
  • Promoting Residents’ well-being, dignity, independence and involvement in decisions about their care.
  • Maintaining accurate, clear and contemporaneous clinical records.
  • Acting as a positive role model and maintaining professional standards in accordance with the NMC Code.
  • Supporting the learning and development of colleagues through practice supervision, preceptorship and mentoring.
  • Keeping up to date with current nursing practice, research and developments relevant to specialist neurological care.
  • Contributing to service development, quality improvement and initiatives that enhance nursing practice.

  • Has a positive, professional and supportive approach.

Experience in neurological care, tracheostomy care and/or ventilator management would be highly desirable.
