We’re looking for a Backend Engineer to join Sava’s Data Engineering team, focusing on backend architecture and implementation. This role offers the rare chance to shape early-stage, customer-facing infrastructure and influence key technical decisions. You’ll work in a multidisciplinary, highly integrated environment alongside engineers and scientists from diverse backgrounds.

Responsibilities

• Design and implement backend architectures, APIs, applications, services, and databases to support both production and developmental needs
• Conduct automated testing of backend infrastructure
• Contribute to high-performance software development processes and champion best practices
• Translate high-level system requirements into technical design solutions

Past Experience

• 5+ years of experience with production backends
• Experience with strongly typed languages
• Experience with common database approaches - relational and non-relational
• Deep understanding of internet networking concepts, protocols, servers, instances, CDNs, etc.
• Experience setting up development servers from scratch, on-premise or on cloud
• Knowledge of containerization
• Understanding of Public Key Infrastructure

Requirements

• Passion for creating elegant interfaces that encapsulate complexity and facilitate building loosely coupled systems
• Focus on rapid scalability of solutions, considering market ramp-up when entering new markets
• Experience with Model-Based Engineering approaches, such as Data Model Design or UML
• Commitment to system security and ability to adopt both red team and blue team roles
• Knowledge of CVEs and CWEs
• Experience with encryption techniques
• Ability to adapt to changes in the security landscape
• Flexibility with tools and tech stacks, and openness to learning new ones; believing in choosing the right tool for each project
• Excellent communication skills across disciplines, with the ability to translate concepts using analogies when appropriate. Disciplines include Data Science, Mobile Engineering, Embedded Software, Manufacturing, Electronics, Sensor Development, and Mechanical Engineering
• Focus on system observability through automatic tracking of performance metrics and error diagnostics

Preferred

• Experience in regulated industries (e.g., Banking, Medical)
• Experience with Data Residency requirements
• Knowledge of SOC2, ISO 27001 standards
• Experience developing compliant with IEC62304
