Job summary

Genomics England is seeking a Principal Site Reliability Engineer to establish and grow the organisation-wide SRE capability. You will lead a small team and define standards to build and operate reliable services across the platform.

You will partner with product and engineering teams to embed SRE principles, influence technical direction and drive a culture of reliability and resilience across the organisation.

Qualifications

• Comprehensive knowledge of SRE principles and practices.
• Strong release automation and toil-eliminating skills (Python preferred).
• Understanding of how architecture affects system resilience.
• Experience with platform engineering across CI/CD, IaC, monitoring and recovery.
• Experience in at least one major public cloud (AWS preferred).
• Ability to lead teams, develop people and coordinate work toward outcomes.
• Strong interpersonal skills; clear communicator across squads and stakeholders.
• Comfortable working with both remote and in-person teams.

• Identify high-value opportunities to improve reliability across platforms.
• Define standards, patterns and tooling for reliable services.
• Develop capabilities that reduce operational toil and boost engineering effectiveness.
