Job summary

PhysicsX, based in London with hybrid work, is hiring a Senior Software Engineer – SRE Core Infra to build reliable, scalable infrastructure for the platform. You will design multi-cloud and on-prem solutions, manage Kubernetes at scale, and implement secure, auditable patterns across environments.

Qualifications

• Kubernetes depth – 5+ years of production experience with cluster architecture, scheduling, networking, storage and API lifecycle.
• Crossplane expertise – design and operate Crossplane compositions, providers and managed resources in production.
• Terraform proficiency – scaleable Terraform usage including state management, modules and CI integration.
• Multi cloud and on premises – experience across more than one cloud provider and on premises environments.
• Multi tenancy architecture – design and implement single and multi-tenant Kubernetes architectures with strong isolation and governance.
• Secrets management – Vault or cloud secret stores with dynamic provisioning and rotation.
• Networking – Kubernetes networking, CNI, Istio and ingress patterns, cross-cluster connectivity.
• vCluster – experience with lightweight isolated clusters within shared environments.
• GPU and accelerated compute – managing GPU drivers and device plugins for AI workloads.
• Kubernetes Operators – comfortable writing or extending Operators in Golang or Python.
• Software engineering capability – Python and Golang; some FP language exposure recommended.
• Platform engineering mindset – treat infrastructure as a product with strong usability and documentation.
• Distributed systems – understanding of failures, consistency and scale.

Responsibilities

• Own the design and delivery of core infrastructure across multi cloud providers (AWS, GCP, Azure) and on premises using Terraform and Crossplane.
• Architect and operate Kubernetes clusters for single-tenant and multi-tenant workloads with emphasis on isolation, performance and reliability.
• Define and implement provisioning patterns using Crossplane compositions and Terraform modules for reproducibility and auditability.
• Design and operate secrets management solutions with dynamic provisioning, rotation and fine-grained access control integrated with cluster identity.
• Manage GPU driver configurations and accelerated compute node pools for AI and simulation workloads.
• Own cluster networking design including CNI selection, Istio service mesh, ingress strategy and cross-cluster connectivity.
• Implement vCluster based multi-tenancy to provide strong workload isolation within shared infrastructure.
• Develop lightweight Kubernetes Operators or controllers where automation of lifecycle tasks is required.
• Establish SLOs and reliability targets and lead incident response for core infrastructure components.
• Partner with security and platform teams to enforce governance, network policies and compliance controls.
• Contribute to and uphold engineering standards across the platform.
