Job description

Job Title: Senior Specifications Technologist

Due to growth and new business, The Cake Crew is seeking a Senior Specifications Technologist to join their expanding technical team. This is a hybrid role with an option to work up to 3 days on site and two days from home following a probationary/training period, or totally site-based if preferred.

The purpose of the role is the completion of retailer, customer, and own brand specifications, including: Sainsbury’s, Tesco, Co-op, Aldi, Morrisons, ASDA, Lidl, Premier (Hamilton Grant), The Cake Crew, and others as required. It also involves management and administration of retailer systems and supporting team members.

The ideal candidate will be well-organized, able to use their initiative to meet tight deadlines, and capable of working both independently and as part of a team. Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, are essential for interacting internally and with external partners such as retailers and third parties. Full IT literacy in the Microsoft Office suite is required.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Writing and completing finished product specifications for retailers, customers, and own brand products.
2. Supplier specification approval and onboarding.
3. Understanding of primary account requirements, including retailer/customer codes of practice and standards.
4. Supporting specification completions across other accounts during high volume periods or holiday cover.
5. Managing critical path tasks for primary accounts.
6. Ensuring specifications meet high standards, are accurate first time, and meet KPIs.
7. Managing and administering retailer systems, including specifications and artwork systems, and communicating notifications internally.
8. Generating pack copies for own brand specifications, including sub and legal name generation.
9. Reviewing and approving artwork, liaising with third parties, retailers, and print houses.
10. Supporting NPD with nutritional calculations and submission form completion.
11. Performing cross-checks with NPD on factory paperwork, recipes, and specifications.
12. Conducting specification cross-checks before submission.
13. Reviewing and approving product photos and information on Brandbank before launch.
14. Participating in pre- and post-launch reviews.
15. Understanding Brexit requirements and calculating related codes.
16. Attending relevant meetings, including NPD meetings.
17. Supporting additional projects like packaging matrices and product information reviews.
18. Supporting raw material specification and approval processes, including risk assessments.
19. Maintaining knowledge of BRC and retailer audit requirements.
20. Understanding relevant legislation and regulations.
21. Completing internal audits and other business requirements.
22. Supporting training and development of other specification writers.
